The research vessel Lake Guardian arrived at 14:00 on August 12 for the Visiting Ship’s Dock. They were in town less than a day and departed at 08:00 on August 13. She headed upriver into the Watson Basin, winded off the USS Little Rock, and then headed out for the lake around 8:30. Out near Point Abino, the Guardian met the inbound McKeil tug Wyatt M. and Sheri Lynn S. with their deck barge MM 170. They came in the North Entrance and headed down to the Black Rock Lock where some sort of issue kept them from transiting through. They tried to enter the lock, found out the barge’s attachments and fenders were too wide, and then had to dock her at the Upper Tie Up Wall for a while. During the afternoon, after some adjustments with the equipment were made, they tried again and then ran into problems trying to exit downbound. The barge was then backed out again and secured on the Upper Guide Wall around 17:00. While all this was going on, the Algoma Compass snuck into Lackawanna to unload salt. They pulled right up to the Main Dock and secured at the North End of the bulk apron for unloading onto the open pile there.
Next up will be the New York/DS 509A around 08:00 on August with an assist from the Vermont for Tonawanda with asphalt from Marathon in Detroit.
