Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Scott Bjorklund
Duluth Entry
James R. Barker departed at 00:06 (Central) Tuesday, August 8 with UTAC pellets for Cleveland Works. Great Republic departed at 10:48 that same morning with Mustang pellets for Indiana Harbor after a short stay in port undergoing repairs.
Algoma Mariner arrived at 10:06 Wednesday, August 9 to load petroleum coke for Port Daniel, Quebec. Indiana Harbor arrived later in the day at 17:05 to fuel before loading iron ore pellets at CN#6.
Algoma Mariner departed at 00:37 Thursday, August 10 with petroleum coke for McInnis Cement at Port Daniel, Quebec. G.L. Ostrander arrived at 03:38 with cement for the Holcim dock in Superior. Happy Ranger arrived at 09:55 with containers from Antwerp, Belgium for Port Terminal. Indiana Harbor departed at 17:13 Thursday evening with iron ore pellets for Cleveland.
John G. Munson arrived at 02:11 Friday, August 11 to load iron ore pellets at CN #6. American Mariner arrived at 03:07 that same morning with limestone for Hallett Dock 5. American Mariner departed at 12:12 empty for Thunder Bay, and John G. Munson departed at 14:05 with iron ore pellets for Gary Works. American Century arrived at 16:34 to fuel before loading low sulfur coal at SMET. Finally, Happy Ranger departed at 18:18 Friday evening with containers for eventual delivery to Belgium.
Superior Entry
Algoma Guardian departed at 04:06 Tuesday, August 8 with iron ore pellets for Hamilton, and Capt. Henry Jackman arrived soon after at 04:27.
Algoma Niagara arrived at 02:43 Wednesday, August 9 with oats from Thunder Bay destined for Elevator M. Capt. Henry Jackman finally departed at 04:00 that same morning with iron ore pellets for Hamilton. CSL Assiniboine arrived at 04:19 to load iron ore pellets; they departed at 16:50 for Quebec City. Spruceglen arrived at 17:18 that same day to also load for Quebec City.
Algoma Niagara departed at 13:40 Thursday, August 10 empty for Thunder Bay. Spruceglen departed at 20:13 that same day for their long trip down the seaway to Quebec City. Oakglen arrived next at 20:42 to load iron ore.
Oakglen departed at 13:02 Friday, August 11 for Quebec City. Finally, Baie Comeau arrived at 13:12 to load iron ore pellets at Burlington Northern.
Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
James R. Barker departed Two Harbors on August 15 at 14:00 for 7-H in Indiana Harbor. Manitoulin departed Two Harbors later that night for Algoma-Soo.
Algoma Strongfield departed Two Harbors on August 16 at 02:34 for Hamilton. Algoma Discovery arrived Two Harbors at 09:37. Edwin H. Gott is off of Two Harbors for the shiploader.
Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
The Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader departed Silver Bay on August 15 between 14:00 and 14:30 with no destination listed, but probably Toledo.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Transport is scheduled next for salt. Transport’s last season, then expected to be scrapped. Algoma Buffalo is scheduled then next for salt.
Monroe, MI – Bill Kloss
Manitowoc unloaded at DTE then left for Detroit on August 15, making room for American Century to unload coal at DTE.
American Century departed to Superior, WI, on August 16.
Toledo, OH – Bill Kloss
Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader unloaded at Ironville then left for Meldrum Bay on August 15.
Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger unloaded a partial load at St. Marys then departed to Cleveland on August 16. Sharon M1/Huron Spirit unloaded a partial load of steel coils then left for Cleveland as well. Herbert C. Jackson was at Midwest Terminals as of Wednesday night. Arrivals were Paul R. Tregurtha with ore for Torco and Blair McKeil.
Marblehead, OH – Bill Kloss
On August 15, Algoma Compass weighed anchor and loaded limestone at Holcim while Mark W. Barker was anchored waiting to load. Algoma Compass departed for Windsor in the evening and the Baby Barker moved to the dock to load.
The Barker loaded stone at Holcim and left for Cleveland on August 16.
Sandusky, OH – Bill Kloss
Defiance/Ashtabula loaded coal and left for Algoma Steel at the Soo on August 15.
Cleveland, OH – Bill Kloss
Mark W. Barker departed for a return to Marblehead on August 15. Herbert C. Jackson delivered to CSI Sands then left for Toledo. The training ship State of Michigan docked at the Port while Happy Ranger loaded containers and Beatrix unloaded steel.
Mark W. Barker arrived on August 16 late in the afternoon to deliver limestone to RiverDock. Evening activity saw the departure of Happy Ranger to Valleyfield, PQ, and the arrival of Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger, Sharon M1/Huron Spirit and American Courage. Beatrix and T/S State of Michigan were still at the Port docks.
Grand River, OH – Fairport Harbor, OH – Bill Kloss
Sam Laud unloaded limestone at Osborne and then departed on August 15.
Ashtabula, OH – Bill Kloss
Cuyahoga had turned on her AIS as of August 15, a possible sign of the classic Maritimer returning to service. She has been undergoing repairs.
Conneaut, OH – Bill Kloss
John J. Boland delivered limestone to the P&C Dock on August 16.
Buffalo, NY – Lackawanna, NY – Tonawanda, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The American Mariner arrived at 13:00 on August 15 for the Frontier Elevator with wheat from Superior. She came straight in without tugs and had no issues navigating with the thrusters up to the dock. CSL Niagara came in the South Entrance to load coal at 21:00 on August 15. She turned up the Outer Harbor and stopped off the CRH Terminal. They then backed into the Lackawanna Canal for the Gateway Metroport Main Dock to take on a coal cargo at the bulk loading apron.
The New York was spotted making a run up the Niagara River from Marathon to Suite Kote light tug on the morning of August 16 for some unknown reason. Later that afternoon the CSL Niagara departed Gateway Metroport with a partial coal cargo bound for Sandusky. Then at 14:30 the New York was back at Marathon and she got underway from the notch of the DS 509A, headed for the lake. They cleared the Buffalo Piers around 16:00 and headed straight out in “push mode” bound for Detroit.
Buffalo, NY – Lackawanna, NY – Tonawanda, NY – Bill Kloss
After loading a partial coal load, CSL Niagara departed to Sandusky on August 16. Also leaving was New York/Double Skin 509A. American Mariner is at General Mills.
Nanticoke, ON – Bill Kloss
Algonova departed with petroleum products for Sarnia on August 15. Baie Comeau arrived with ore for Stelco.
Once empty, Baie Comeau departed on August 16 and is on her way to a Lake Superior port. Algoterra arrived to load at Imperial Oil.
