Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
In the quiet darkness of a midsummer night, steamer Arthur M. Anderson departed the Duluth Entry with blast furnace trim for Gary, disrupting the calmness on her way out with a 00:41 captain’s salute for the Aerial Lift Bridge. Mistakenly omitted from yesterday’s report, the Anderson had spent Monday at CN-Hallett Dock 5 loading the cargo of trim. Saltie Fagelgracht arrived at 06:48 with wind turbine components for the port terminal under another beautiful summer sunrise and tied up at Berth 1 to unload. American Century departed Superior at 10:23 with Keetac taconite, bound for Gary, and Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader were inbound Duluth for the fuel dock at 14:48. The pair would shift over to Graymont at around 19:00 to discharge their limestone cargo from Port Inland. CSL Tadoussac was the only other traffic of the day, inbound Superior once again at 16:39 for ore at BNSF. Tall ship visitor Pride of Baltimore II spent the day docked against the west side of the old Northern Pacific dock just up the bay. Over in Duluth, Algoma Transport continues to unload salt at Compass Minerals. With the addition of Fagelgracht, a flotilla of saltwater vessels remain in port: Federal Kushiro is at the port terminal discharging barite, fleetmate Federal Churchill remains at Ash Grove emptying her holds of cement, Iryda is at Gavilon, and Maxima waits at anchor off the Duluth piers. The latter two vessels could switch places as soon as Wednesday.
