St. Marys River – Joshua Hebeisen
USCGC Katmai Bay left her berth at U.S. Coast Guard Station Sault Ste. Marie around 09:00 and headed down the St. Marys River, blazing a trail through the ice for Algocanada. The tanker, finished discharging petroleum products at Purvis Marine, departed about an hour later to begin her journey back down to Sarnia, ON. Katmai Bay eventually set a course for St. Ignace, MI.
Cheboygan, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Perhaps grabbing some hotcakes and an Egg MacMuffin on the way out of town, “Big Mac” USCGC Mackinaw departed U.S. Coast Guard Station Cheboygan at 09:07 to break ice in her namesake straits. The cutter personally escorted Algoma Intrepid eastbound before going to anchor in the vicinity of Mackinac Island, possibly waiting to assist Algoma Conveyor and Algonova through the area on Sunday.
Port Huron, MI – Sarnia, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After running salt for the better part of the winter, Whitefish Bay arrived Sarnia at 11:30 for what appears to be lay-up at the Cargill elevator. Algonova departed Imperial Oil a little over an hour later for a trip to Milwaukee, WI, with petroleum products; her fellow tanker Iver Bright remains down the river at Suncor. USCGC Hollyhock wrapped up the day at 15:21 upon arrival at her home base of U.S. Coast Guard Station Port Huron.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
USCGC Hollyhock departed her berth at Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority at 08:45, heading just up the shoreline for a quick pit stop at U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit. She got on her way again around 10:15 en route to Port Huron, MI.
Amherstburg, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
CCGS Griffon returned to the Canadian Coast Guard Amherstburg Base at 17:40 after conducting icebreaking operations in Lake Erie.
Setubal, Portugal – Janey Anderson
NACC Argonaut — with fresh paint, cargo upgrades, and an engine overhaul — is ready to leave Lisgave Shipyards in Setubal, Portugal, to travel back across the Atlantic Ocean.
