Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Wednesday, January 18, saw Saginaw clear Superior at 01:24, embarking on yet another late-season trip to Algoma Steel with ore. The ship and her crew just can’t get enough of the Twin Ports and will be back for one more trip this weekend.
Milwaukee, WI – MKE Marine Reports
Arriving Wednesday were: Algoma Conveyor at 08:17 with salt from Compass Minerals, Goderich; Stewart J. Cort at 08:57 from Burns Harbor; Sarah Andrie/A-390 from Indiana Harbor with asphalt for Construction Resources Management; Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger from Calumet Harbor with cement for the Kinnickinnic River terminal. Clearing Thursday were: Algoma Conveyor at 12:21 for Goderich; Sarah Andrie/A-390 at 13:44 for Indiana Harbor; Prentiss Brown/St, Marys Challenger at 14:23 for Charlevoix. The Cort will be spending winter at the city’s Heavy Lift Dock. Alpena should arrive Thursday evening with cement for Lafarge.
St. Joseph – Benton Harbor, MI – Michael Moran
The steamship Alpena is on the move. The 80-year-old freighter is headed to South Chicago and will subsequently head here. Best guess is Saturday afternoon. The Alpena will deliver to Holcim, ending our local season.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Toledo, OH: Arrivals were James R. Barker for layup and Herbert C. Jackson to load ore at Torco.
Cleveland, OH: James R. Barker weighed anchor and left for Toledo. Olive L. Moore/Menominee unloaded at the Bulk Terminal and departed for Toledo as well. Victory/Maumee then tied up at the Lehigh Cement dock. American Courage is still working the shuttles.
Ashtabula, OH: Sam Laud arrived for layup.
Conneaut, OH: Indiana Harbor unloaded at the P&C Dock.
Buffalo, NY: Herbert C. Jackson departed for Toledo.
Nanticoke, OH: Algoterra is at Imperial Oil.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
Around 05:00 on the 19th, the Herbert C. Jackson was all done at CSI and she backed down for the lake without tugs. Later that morning, around 11:15, the Calumet arrived with even more sand from Brevort. She came in the South Entrance for Lackawanna and winded off the CRH plant before backing into Gateway Metroport. They secured the ship at the North end of the Main Dock and spent the day unloading there.
