BUFFALO, NEW YORK-Bill Kloss
Buffalo, NY:  Manitowoc departed late Friday night for Brevort. Olive L.Moore/Menominee weighed anchor, unloaded and departed 17:56. John J. Boland was next to arrive at 10:18 to unload at CSI.

BUFFALO, NEW YORK-Brian Wroblewski
Next up for CSI was the MANITOWOC on the 5th. She came in without tugs around 9AM and spent the day unloading sand there. At 4:45PM the tug-barge combo OLIVE L MOORE – MENOMINEE arrived off Buffalo. They had to go to anchor just South of the Safe Water Beacon to wait for the MANITOWOC to leave. Around 10PM, the MANITOWOC backed out and departed, with the OLIVE L MOORE – MENOMINEE heading in to take the CSI wharf after they cleared the North Entrance Channel. When they arrived there, they became the new record holder for vessel length at 728-feet (combined) that far up the City Ship Canal.

At 10:30AM on the 6th, the JOHN J BOLAND arrived off Buffalo and went to anchor to wait for the MOORE to bring the MENOMINEE back out again. Unloading was going slow due to wet conditions so the barge crew was using the vibrators and hoses to help get the sand moving. Then at 4:30PM, the barge was finally empty and the MOORE took her out stern first without assistance for the lake. The BOLAND fired back up around that time, pulled in the hooks, and started to head for Buffalo. They met out near the Safe Water Beacon and the BOLAND came in all by herself as the MOORE departed pushing her barge ahead up the lake.

Prentiss Brown/St.Marys Challenger arrived 05:16, unloaded at SMC Columbus Street, and departed 15:35 to Charlevoix. Wilfred Sykes departed 03:35 to Marquette. Delivering 59,000 tons of UTAC pellets to the Bulk Terminal was James R. Barker, arriving at 17:01. American Courage is running shuttles.
