Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Their unload at C. Reiss Coal Co. complete, VanEnkevort Tug & Barge pair Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader got underway shortly after 04:00 to shift to Superior’s BNSF Dock 5. The trip across the harbor – the longest that modern-day vessels can make in the Twin Ports – took the tug/barge combo about three hours to complete. They began to load 35,000 tons of Hibtac pellets upon arriving at the dock shortly after 07:00. In a morning twofer that saw 2,013.5 feet of steel pass through the Duluth Ship Canal, Paul R. Tregurtha departed with coal at 08:38 before Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived ten minutes later. The Tregurtha is headed to St. Clair and Monroe to discharge her cargo at DTE power plants, while the McCarthy is taking on a load of taconite pellets destined for Cleveland at CN Dock 6. The Dirk and Trader would depart Superior for Toledo at 18:08.
Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
Due Two Harbors late 07/19 or early on 07/20 is the Algoma Equinox. Also due Two Harbors are the Manitoulin, Victory/Maumee, Edwin H. Gott. Due North Mining in Silver Bay late on 0/7/21 is the Joyce L. VanEnkeVort/Great Lakes Trader.
Port Inland, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
After her fleetmate Joseph L. Block cleared the dock for Port Dolomite, Wilfred Sykes arrived at 00:31 from anchor outside the harbor. She would depart en route to Burns Harbor at 09:58, allowing John G. Munson, at anchor since 03:15, to proceed inbound.
Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IL: Cement ATBs G.L. Ostrander/Integrity and Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger arrived at 12:12 and 22:47, respectively. As usual, Ostrander/Integrity tied up at Holcim. Brown/Challenger were still traveling down the Calumet River as of Tuesday night, but are likely headed for the St. Marys Cement Chicago Terminal.
Gary, IN: Edgar B. Speer backed out at 19:15, turned around just off the breakwater, and headed upbound for another load of Minntac pellets at Two Harbors.
Burns Harbor, IN: Classic laker Herbert C. Jackson paid Burns Harbor a visit on Tuesday morning when she arrived for the north end of the Cleveland-Cliffs dock at 08:04. She would be followed inbound by saltie Edenborg at 10:27, who tied up at Metro Ports. James R. Barker departed Cliffs for Superior at 14:54, with her fleetmate the Jackson heading outbound for Port Inland at 19:21.
St. Joseph, MI – Benton Harbor, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
G.L. Ostrander/Integrity backed out the St. Joseph River from Holcim on Tuesday morning, departing for South Chicago at 07:21.
Northern Lake Huron Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Port Dolomite, MI: Cuyahoga arrived at 01:00 before departing for Windsor at 18:25. Joseph L. Block anchored at 06:00 and made port an hour after the Cuyahoga left.
Drummond Island, MI: Manitowoc arrived at 04:33 before departing for Windsor at 15:20.
Bruce Mines, ON: Michipicoten departed for Marysville at 09:05.
Thessalon, ON: In port from 17:25 to 21:25 was Robert S. Pierson. She was due next in Meldrum Bay.
Meldrum Bay, ON: The Pierson made her arrival around midnight.
Calcite, MI: Arriving for anchorage at 01:00 was the American Mariner; she arrived just after 19:00 as Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson were heading outbound for Lorain. Great Republic departed for Buffington earlier in the day at 14:44.
Stoneport, MI: At 03:15, Olive L. Moore/Menominee arrived while Kaye E. Barker went to anchor. The latter would arrive following the former’s departure for Monroe at 12:30.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Compass arrived at 00.59 Tuesday loading at Compass Minerals, 2nd appearance here this season. Algoma Buffalo arrived 09.09 Tuesday and tied up along North Pier, to load salt next. Buffalo’s tenth appearance here this season.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader, fresh off another trip to Toledo, arrived at 02:52 and tied up at EES Coke. Around 14:00, the Clyde appeared to shift over to Mistersky while leaving her barge at Zug Island, heading back for the Trader around 19:45 before the pair departed for Superior at 22:12. Around 03:50, the upbound Edwin H. Gott and downbound H. Lee White made port for Mistersky and Carmeuse, respectively. The Gott would continue on her journey from Nanticoke to Two Harbors at 06:39; the White continued unloading her cargo from Calcite into Tuesday night. Iver Bright, on a round trip from Sarnia, was in port for Mistersky from 08:24 to 22:26. Algoma Innovator departed ADM Windsor at 16:00 for Toledo, while Samuel de Champlain/Innovation, coming from Toledo, arrived at 21:47 for Holcim.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
A quiet day on Lake Erie today saw a few vessel movements.
Toledo, OH: Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader left for Detroit late Monday night. Samuel de Champlain/Innovation arrived at 07:52 unloaded cement at Holcim and departed for Detroit at 17:34. CSL Niagara departed for Hamilton at 14:53. Arriving Tuesday evening at 20:28 was the Algoma Innovator.
Marblehead, OH: American Courage Arrived from Cleveland at 12:28. She is loading stone from the Holcim quarry.
Cleveland, OH: American Courage departed for Marblehead at 05:19.
Ashtabula, OH: Royal Wagenborg’s Maxima departed for Chicago at 08:21.
Nanticoke, ON: Algocanada arrived at Imperial Oil at 01:44. McKeil’s Harvest Spirit departed at 20:26 with steel coils for the Port of Cleveland.
