Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
Edwin H. Gott was inbound Two Harbors for the shiploader.
Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After stopping by Silver Islet, ON, on Thursday, Viking Polaris ventured farther beyond the Sleeping Giant overnight to find herself in Thunder Bay come sunrise. The cruise ship’s 06:31 Friday arrival would see her dock at Pool 6 for the day and leave for Duluth, MN, about 12 hours later. A saltie shift also took place in the morning, with Blacky finally leaving her Keefer Terminal berth to tie up at MobilEx instead. Federal Ruhr departed for Montreal, QC, at 19:35; the vessel had loaded an export cargo at Thunder Bay Terminals.
The anchored Osogovo continues treading water off the piers.
Marquette, MI – Arthur Pickering
Since Wednesday, the Hon. James L. Oberstar and the Lee A. Tregurtha visited the ore dock in Marquette. As of Friday morning, scheduled for a late afternoon arrival was the Joseph Block. The American Spirit is scheduled for a Sunday afternoon arrival.
Marquette, MI – Noah H.
Joseph L. Block arrived at 14:00, bringing sinter from Duluth to unload before a presumable ore load. She’s the second ship to arrive from the west in the last handful of days, the other being the Hon. James L. Oberstar after unloading stone. Victory/Maumee is due in the next few days.
Grand Haven, MI – Noah H.
Calumet departed at 06:44 following her around-midnight arrival last night. Grand Haven is a rare port of call for the river class vessel, which unloaded aggregate from Indiana Harbor before heading off to Port Inland. Next up will be Sam Laud, with what appears to be her first visit of the season.
Note: Algoma Intrepid’s arrival earlier in the week was her second such visit this season, not her first.
Monroe, MI – Bill Kloss
Mesabi Miner departed for Silver Bay, MN. Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 arrived at the Port dock, unloaded then left for Alpena.
Toledo, OH – Bill Kloss

Cleveland, OH – Bill Kloss
First to arrive was McKeil Spirit to unload at Lehigh Cement. Next up was American Courage delivering to Ontario Stone, then moving to the Bulk Terminal to load a shuttle. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder anchored in Lake Erie to wait for the Courage to finish unloading as the channel to Cargill was blocked. Once the Courage moved to the Bulk Terminal, Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder were able to head to Cargill. Wilfred Sykes anchored in Lake Erie. Once river currents subsided, she headed up the Cuyahoga to Cliffs. The saltie Finnborg departed for Detroit.
Fairport Harbor, OH – Bill Kloss
Manitoulin arrived with limestone for Carmeuse. She left for Sandusky once empty. Frontenac then arrived in the evening to load salt at Morton.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
John J. Boland went to anchor around 22:00 Thursday night off Buffalo Harbor and then came in around 04:30 Friday morning for CSI. The Boland was done unloading and backed out for the lake by herself at 16:00, blasting repeated danger signals on the ship’s horn to clear out some pesky pleasure craft in their way. She winded in the Outer Harbor with the thrusters and departed for the lake on a beautiful Summer afternoon.
Nanticoke, ON – Bill Kloss
Algocanada and Algoterra are at Imperial Oil. Algosea is at the Port Dover anchorage. Departing were CSL Niagara for Toledo and Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin to Bruce Mines. Whitefish Bay unloaded ore at Stelco then left for Superior, WI. Later in the day, Algoterra departed with petroleum products for Tracy, PQ, and Algocanada went to anchor to wait for product and Algosea moved to load at the dock. John D. Leitch was next to arrive at Stelco.
