Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Just after midnight Thursday morning, CSL Niagara went to anchor off the Superior piers and took her place as the third vessel in line to load ore at BNSF Dock 5. Her fleetmate Whitefish Bay was already at the dock, while Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader had anchored several hours earlier and were next in the queue. At 00:30, an empty John G. Munson pulled away from CN-Hallett Dock 5 in West Duluth, making the short trip up the bay to the CN Dock 6 shiploader and a load of Minntac pellets. The harbor would rest until 09:00 when Frontenac joined the Niagara and VanEnkevort at anchorage waiting for BNSF. Originally due in Two Harbors, James R. Barker became the first official passage of the day when her orders were changed for Duluth, proceeding inbound the piers at 10:24. She would take the place of the Munson at CN; the latter vessel was already making her way up the harbor and eventually departed at 11:26 for Conneaut. Just minutes later, Whitefish Bay was outbound the Superior Entry with 30,000 tons of Hibtac product destined for Quebec City and eventual export overseas. The VanEnkevort and Erie Trader weighed anchor and made their arrival at 11:53. United States Geological Survey research vessel Kiyi was inbound Duluth at 13:21 and tied up at the DECC. She appears to be conducting surveys on Lake Superior. Candice Elise/Robert F. Deegan arrived a little later at 14:57 with liquid calcium chloride for EnviroTech-Hallett Dock 8. This product is typically used to keep down the dust during regional construction projects. Samuel de Champlain/Innovation continue to transfer cement to storage vessel J.A.W.
