Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Morning fog and strong winds once again impacted Twin Ports shipping traffic on Tuesday. Waiting out the weather at Midwest Energy with a full load of petroleum coke, Federal Weser left the dock at 04:45 in an attempt to depart the harbor. Due to restricted visibility, however, she was forced to anchor just inside the Duluth turning basin for nearly two hours. The Fednav vessel finally made a run for the bridge during a break in the fog, successfully departing with the help of a tug assist at 06:27. Ironically, she set out on a calm and clear Lake Superior beneath a beautiful sunrise. Walter J. McCarthy was due in the afternoon to load taconite at CN 6 in Duluth, but decided to arrive via the Superior Entry due to weather (likely strong winds). After aborting her first attempt inbound at 14:00, the footer cleared the piers at 15:06 and sailed up the harbor to dock at the shiploader. CSL Niagara remains tied up at BNSF 5 in Superior waiting for conditions to improve; she has presumably finished her load of Hibtac pellets. Federal Seto is loading wheat at CHS 1, while Lee A. Tregurtha is nearby at Fraser Shipyards and may depart tomorrow for Marquette.

Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney

Marquette, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
American Spirit is still loading at the north side of the LS&I dock. Her lifeboat has been removed and tied up further down the slip to give the 1,004-foot vessel clearance alongside the loading chutes. Reports indicate that the Spirit is due next in Cleveland with Tilden pellets for the Bulk Terminal.

St. Marys River – Roger LeLievre
Barge Pathfinder unloaded sand for the new Soo Lock project Tuesday morning. She and her tug Dorothy Ann were underway downbound around noon headed for Cedarville. The small Canadian ferry Sandy Graham, which arrived at Sault Ste. Marie, ON, last November, was downbound for Georgian Bay Tuesday afternoon. It is unknown what work was done on her during her stay. She is owned by Beausoleil First Nation on Christian Island.

The Champlain and her barge departed downbound with cement for Cleveland at 14:12, Atlantic Huron tied up at Windsor across the river about an hour later, and Indiana Harbor set sail for Superior at 16:53. Lafarge would receive more cement from barge Integrity when tug G.L. Ostrander pushed her into port at 22:11; at the same time, Harvest Spirit departed from ADM and Windsor with fleetmate Florence Spirit taking her place from anchor. Federal Bering remains on the hook nearby. Everlast/Norman McLeod are still at what may be CBM farther up the Canadian shore.

Puna got underway from anchorage and arrived at P&H around 05:00 to load grain for Ireland. The afternoon saw Federal Freedom make port with steel at 14:03 and proceed to the berth previously occupied by Narie to unload, while tanker Chem Hydra was inbound the Burlington Canal to anchor at 15:48. The Hydra is expected to unload cargo at an unknown dock in the coming days.
