Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Scott Bjorklund
Duluth Entry
Steamer Philip R. Clarke departed Duluth empty at 03:07 (Central) Tuesday morning for Two Harbors. Our first cruise ship of the season, Viking Octantis, arrived at 06:03 to spend the day in port; the Octantis departed for Mackinac Island at 17:48. Duluth was pretty quiet Wednesday with John G. Munson arriving at 14:14 with limestone for CN-Hallett #5. Mesabi Miner later arrived at 20:26 to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. Thursday was a busy day for traffic, beginning with Michipicoten arriving at 00:44 to load under the chutes of CN#6. John G. Munson departed empty at 02:08 for Two Harbors. Paul R. Tregurtha arrived for another load of low sulfur coal from SMET at 09:55 that morning. Mesabi Miner departed at 14:11 with iron ore pellets for Cleveland, Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived at 14:58 for CN#6, and Michipicoten departed at 16:26 for Algoma Steel. Finally, Paul R. Tregurtha departed at 21:26 for St. Clair, MI.
As of Thursday night, Walter J. McCarthy Jr. was loading at CN#6. Tug Spartan and barge Spartan II are expected late Friday morning with a load of calcium chloride. Walter J. McCarthy Jr. may depart early afternoon with iron ore pellets. Arthur M. Anderson is expected early evening with a load of limestone for CN-Hallett #5. Finally, Algoma Transport is expected late evening to load iron ore pellets at CN#6.
Superior Entry
Frontenac departed at 11:13 (Central) Tuesday morning with iron ore pellets for Nanticoke. Stewart J. Cort arrived at 12:14 to load next at BNSF; they departed at 03:21 Wednesday morning. Algoma Discovery arrived at 18:49 to load iron ore pellets at BNSF. After Algoma Discovery departed at 05:39 Thursday morning, Burns Harbor arrived to load next at 06:21. As of Thursday night, Burns Harbor was still loading at BNSF while Atlantic Huron and Saginaw waited outside the Superior Entry. Burns Harbor is expected to depart early Friday, opening the dock for Atlantic Huron to load. Saginaw will load after the Huron, followed by Oakglen and Spruceglen.
Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
John G. Munson arrived Two Harbors at 03:45 and departed at 14:42 for Gary. Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader due Silver Bay to load for Toledo.
Saginaw River, MI – Todd Shorkey
Mark W. Barker was inbound on the Saginaw River headed to the Wirt Stone Dock in Bay City on May 30th.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Toledo, OH: Manitoulin departed with no destination update. Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger had a partial unload here and has departed to Cleveland.
Marblehead, OH: H. Lee White is loading at Holcim.
Lorain, OH: Calumet finally departed. She has not updated her AIS with a destination.
Cleveland, OH: Departures were American Spirit to the Twin Ports and Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement to Bowmanville, ON. Federal Katsura is at the Port docks.
Fairport Harbor, OH: CSL Tadoussac is loading at Morton Salt.
Nanticoke, ON: Departing were Algoterra with petroleum products to Tracy, PQ and Harvest Spirit with steel coils to Monroe, MI. Kitikmeot W and Algocanada are at Imperial Oil.
Monroe, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Ocean Navigator had to take a break from her navigating early Wednesday afternoon after experiencing what were reportedly engine troubles on Lake Erie. As reported yesterday, the vessel and her 83 passengers took refuge in Monroe upon arrival at 15:51. The cruise ship would end up spending the night in port, departing at 09:20 Thursday morning to continue her upbound voyage with G-tug Georgia standing by. Detroit, MI-based tug Wisconsin would later join the party, with both her and Georgia shadowing the cruise ship on the journey to Lake Huron. The Navigator reached the open lake at about 19:30 Thursday evening; she sailed on for Milwaukee, WI, without incident (so far) while the tugs flipped a 180 to return home.
