Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Early Wednesday morning, Joseph L. Block wrapped up her first Twin Ports visit of the year with 35,000 tons of Hibtac pellets and a 02:31 departure from Superior. She will be delivering her cargo, loaded at BNSF Dock 5, to Cleveland-Cliffs Burns Harbor. Arriving from the Block’s destination later in the morning was the aptly-named Burns Harbor, which will also be taking on a load of Hibtac for the return trip to her namesake port. The footer is currently taking a delay at Enbridge after her 10:14 arrival in Superior. Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader took the BNSF dock upon arriving at 17:14; at the same time, Houtmangracht departed the Duluth side of the harbor for Thunder Bay and a load of potash. The saltie had spent several days at the port terminal discharging bags of quartz. James R. Barker put a wrap on the day’s activity after arriving Duluth for CN Dock 6 at 21:09.

Royal Wagenborg’s Elbeborg arrived the Twin Ports at 02:09 Thursday to load a cargo of beet pulp pellets at Gavilon. She continued the trend established by her fleetmates of late by making use of the Superior Entry, eliminating the need to perform another spin when proceeding outbound Duluth on departure. Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader would depart Superior at 06:55 with Hibtac pellets for Toledo, and Paul R. Tregurtha sailed inbound under the Aerial Lift Bridge on her weekly trip for coal from SMET. Her shorter fleetmate (by less than ten feet) James R. Barker temporarily scared off the impending evening storms with her “Barker Bark” upon departing with ore for Indiana Harbor at 21:09.

Edgar B. Speer and Presque Isle remain at the port terminal and Fraser Shipyards, respectively, undergoing mechanical repairs.

Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
As of 20:00 on 06/23 the G3 Marquis is still at the ore dock. The American Integrity is SW of Two Harbors at 20:00.

Marquette, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader were Wednesday visitors in port, arriving at 06:23 for the north side of the LS&I ore dock. The pair would depart for an unknown destination at 18:06 after loading under the gravity chutes. 

On Thursday, cruise ship Ocean Navigator made a stop in the lower harbor from 06:11 to 20:43 before departing for Houghton to continue her tour of Lake Superior. This is the Navigator’s second visit to Marquette of the season.

Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IL: Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson arrived at 14:14 on Wednesday, June 22 for Middle River Marine on the Calumet River. Algoma Innovator arrived a few hours later at 16:58, backing in for Compass Minerals with salt from Goderich before shifting to Iroquois right after midnight. After the Innovator tied up, Arthur M. Anderson arrived from anchorage at 00:39 for the KCBX South Terminal. Laura L. VanEnkevort would depart with Joseph H. Thompson later in the morning for Stoneport, while Caroline McKee/Commander were inbound for St. Marys about an hour later at 07:10. The beautiful Kaye E. Barker arrived immediately behind the cement-laden pair at 07:13 and docked at Middle River Marine; she had been anchored out in the lake waiting for the VanEnkevort/Thompson to depart. Classic lakers Barker and Anderson would depart at 19:52 and 23:29 for Stoneport and Green Bay, respectively.
Indiana Harbor, IN: In a trio of Wednesday afternoon action, Walter J. McCarthy Jr. departed Dock 7H for Two Harbors at 12:47, Wilfred Sykes was outbound from ex-Mittal West five minutes later for Grand Haven, and Baie Comeau arrived from anchorage to take the McCarthy’s spot at 7H just after 13:00. The Comeau remained at the dock for the entirety of Thursday.
Buffington, IN: American Spirit departed for Burns Harbor on Wednesday, June 22 around 10:00 after a rare trip in port.
Gary, IN: Arthur M. Anderson was a June 22 arrival, backing in for the Gary Works at 08:47 and departing for Indiana Harbor at 17:13. The following morning would see the Indiana Harbor, Edwin H. Gott, and Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 inbound the breakwater at 03:08, 04:22, and 11:09, respectively. The Indy and Gott tied up along the western facing of the slip to unload ore, with Undaunted and her hardworking barge down and across from the footers on the eastern side. Edwin H. Gott is due next in Two Harbors after departing at 16:54; Indiana Harbor is also en route for Lake Superior after departing for the Twin Ports at 17:58.
Burns Harbor, IN: American Spirit arrived for what was likely Carmeuse at 11:54 Wednesday morning before departing overnight for Marquette at 03:00. Other traffic in the wee hours of Thursday morning included American Century departing Cleveland-Cliffs for Duluth-Superior at 00:43 and Federal Mayumi arriving at 01:12 for FMT Burns Harbor. 

Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Intrepid arrived 21.12 Wednesday loading at Compass Minerals, salt for Hamilton.  Algoma Conveyor arrived 2.45 Thursday, tied up along North Pier to load salt next.  Algoma Buffalo arrived 3.00 Thursday and anchored outside of harbour. Sixty lake boats been hosted by Goderich this season.

Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Toledo, OH: The only departure was H. Lee White for Buffington. Arrivals were Wilf Seymour/Alouette Spirit, Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader and CSL Niagara. In port are American Mariner, Algoma Transport, Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder. Federal Biscay and Greenwing.
Kingsville, ON: Cuyahoga arrived 08:17, unloaded at Southwestern Sales Co and departed for Marblehead at 16:50.
Marblehead, OH: Cuyahoga arrived to load at Holcim at 20:40.
Sandusky, OH: Saginaw is loading at the Norfolk Southern coal dock.
Cleveland, OH: The saltie Fraserborg arrived at Dock 24E at 00:56. Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger left for Charlevoix at 12:12. Calumet arrived from Port Inland at 15:00 to unload at Ontario Stone, followed closely by the tug/barge New York/Double Skin 509A 47 minutes later to unload at the Marathon terminal. Calumet left for Fairport Harbor at 19:27.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Calumet was a late night arrival to Morton Salt.
Nanticoke, ON: Algoterra departed at 12:41 with petroleum products for Montreal.
