Friday, June 16
Mesabi Miner arrived at 22:08 (Central) Friday night to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. Great Republic departed a short time later at 22:46 empty for Two Harbors.
Saturday, June 17
Joseph L. Block arrived at 08:14 Saturday morning with limestone for the receiving hopper on CN#6. Michipicoten arrived later that day at 12:34 to load iron ore pellets at the gravity chutes of CN.
Sunday, June 18
Mesabi Miner departed at 07:29 Sunday morning with iron ore pellets for Toledo. James R. Barker arrived at 18:24 to load iron ore pellets at CN. Herbert C. Jackson arrived at 20:20 for drydocking at Fraser Shipyards. Michipicoten departed at 20:44 with iron ore for Algoma Steel.
Monday, June 19
Joseph L. Block departed at 04:28 Monday morning empty for Marquette. Federal Biscay arrived at 16:27 with cement for Ash Grove. Finally, Paul R. Tregurtha arrived at 20:51 to load coal at SMET.
Tuesday, June 20
James R. Barker departed at 00:30 (Central) Tuesday morning with iron ore pellets. Indiana Harbor arrived at 06:37 that morning for a lengthy load at the CN#6 shiploader. Paul R. Tregurtha departed at 09:46 with low-sulfur coal; American Integrity arrived a short time later at 10:16 to load at SMET. American Integrity was the day’s last action for Duluth, departing at 23:58 with low-sulfur coal.
Wednesday, June 21
The first official day of summer was particularly busy for the Twin Ports! Manitoulin arrived at 02:32 Wednesday morning with a rare cargo of grain from Thunder Bay destined for General Mills, Superior; it has been many years since a vessel unloaded here. Steamer Arthur M. Anderson arrived at 07:43 to wait on the east side of CN#6 for the Indiana Harbor to finish loading. Great Lakes Fleet classics Philip R. Clarke and John G. Munson arrived under the same lift at 15:28 and 15:39 to the delight of boat fans; both vessels unloaded limestone at CN-Hallett #5. Herbert C. Jackson departed at 19:22 that evening empty for Marquette; they had been at Fraser for several days undergoing repairs.
Thursday, June 22
John G. Munson broke up the Great Lakes Fleet get-together when they departed at 03:12 Thursday morning empty for Two Harbors. Indiana Harbor finally departed at 07:10 with iron ore pellets, allowing Philip R. Clarke to shift over to the CN#6 shiploader. Manitoulin departed at 14:07 empty for Two Harbors. Philip R. Clarke departed at 19:48 with iron ore pellets.
Friday, June 23
Steamer Arthur M. Anderson departed at 01:55 Friday morning with blast furnace trim. American Spirit arrived at 06:23 to load iron ore pellets at CN. Cruise ship Ocean Navigator arrived at 08:01 to spend the day at Port Terminal, allowing passengers to disembark to visit the city. Clyde S. VanEnkevort and Erie Trader arrived at 14:00 with a load of sand for Port Terminal; we only see this cargo once or twice a season in recent years! Ocean Navigator departed at 17:12 for Thunder Bay. After they finished offloading sand, Clyde S. VanEnkevort departed at 22:11 empty to wait outside Superior for their turn at BNSF.
Saturday, June 24
Viking Polaris made its first entrance under the Duluth Aerial Bridge at 05:35 Saturday morning for the port’s first “turn around” visit for the year; this meant that a whole new batch of passengers would be boarding the vessel while others got off. Tug Spartan pushed a load of calcium chloride through the canal at 15:23. American Spirit departed at 18:23 with iron ore pellets, allowing Mesabi Miner to arrive at 20:03 for CN. Finally, Viking Polaris departed at 20:37 for Thunder Bay.
Superior Entry
Stewart J. Cort finally departed for Burns Harbor at 08:18 (Central) on the morning of Saturday, June 17. Frontenac loaded next at BNSF, arriving at 08:59 and departing at 01:53 the next morning for Nanticoke. Captain Henry Jackman arrived at 02:25 on Sunday, June 18 to load at BNSF; they departed at 20:18 for Quebec City. Oakglen arrived at 20:31 to load iron ore at BNSF for the same destination. After Oakglen departed at 10:25 on Monday, June 19, Algoma Discovery arrived at 11:07 to load at BNSF, later departing at 21:54 for Hamilton. Burns Harbor arrived at 22:44 to load next. After a long load, Burns Harbor was able to finally depart at 23:43 on Tuesday, June 20 for her namesake port. Spruceglen arrived from anchor at 00:47 on Wednesday, June 21, and they departed at 17:02 that same day for Quebec City. CSL Tadoussac was next to load, arriving at 17:22 and departing at 04:34 on the morning of Thursday, June 22 for Nanticoke. Atlantic Huron then arrived at 04:58 to load next at BNSF; they departed at 18:26 with iron ore pellets. CSL Laurentien arrived from anchor at 19:02 and was able to depart at 07:44 on Friday, June 23. Stewart J. Cort was next to load, arriving at 08:16 for a long load at BNSF. Once the Cort departed at 04:05 on Saturday, June 24, Clyde S. VanEnkevort entered Superior to load next at 04:32. The Clyde departed at 21:10 for Toledo.
Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
American Century was outbound Two Harbors for Gary Works. As of Tuesday, June 27, Presque Isle was at Two Harbors North of #1. Edgar B. Speer was around the hook of Keweenaw heading for Two Harbors; Walter J. McCarthy Jr. was off Duluth waiting on Two Harbors.
Milwaukee, WI – MKE Marine Reports
Samuel de Champlain/Innovation arrived from Alpena at 09:14 Tuesday, June 20 with cement for Holcim. The pair cleared for Waukegan at 02:28 Wednesday, June 21. Pearl Mist arrived at 07:00 on the June 21 and tied up at the Pier Wisconsin Cruise Dock; she left during the afternoon on Thursday, June 22. Hanseatic Inspiration arrived at 07:29 June 21 and proceeded to the South Shore Cruise Dock. She departed on the evening of Friday, June 23. Algoma Sault arrived from Nanticoke at 17:28 June 21 with steel slag for the St. Marys Cement grinding plant. She departed late on June 22. After delivering steel coils from Antwerp, Federal Frontier cleared for Thunder Bay at 23:27 June 21. Taking her place at Federal Marine Terminals was Federal Caribou. After delivering steel coils from IJmuiden, she cleared for Thunder Bay at 18:35 June 23. Algoma Compass arrived from Goderich at 02:27 June 22. She cleared for Brevort at 12:52 after dropping her cargo of deicing salt on the Compass Minerals discharge pad. G.L. Ostrander/Integrity arrived from Alpena at 18:11 June 22 with cement for Holcim. The pair cleared for St. Joseph the next morning. Taking their place at the Holcim Dock was Samuel de Champlain/Innovation, which came up from Calumet Harbor and departed for Alpena at 04:24 Saturday, June 24. Bradshaw McKee arrived from Sturgeon Bay on the morning of June 23 to retrieve cement barge St. Marys Conquest at the Kinnickinnic River terminal. The two cleared for Charlevoix at 10:14. Calumet arrived at 13:41 June 23 with deicing salt from Morton, Detroit. She joined Federal Caribou in south slip one of the outer harbor and dropped her cargo on the open dock before clearing for Calcite at 21:59. Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger arrived from Charlevoix at 18:09 June 23 with cement for the Kinnickinnic River terminal. That is all.
Alpena, MI – Jason Luther
Saturday, June 17 saw the ATB G.L. Ostrander/Integrity moor underneath the cement silos at Holcim in Alpena at 08:36.
Monday, June 19 brought a not-so-regular visitor in American Courage from Detroit at 7:49 and then departing for Cedarville at 14:18. Also in port, well, anchored in the bay, was the Viking Octantis. Her exceptional crew made for a ballet of tenders, bringing many smiling passengers into Alpena.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Compass arrived at 00:44 Tuesday, June 20 and loaded at Compass Minerals. She cleared at 13:07 Tuesday upbound for Milwaukee, WI, with salt. Algoma Innovator arrived at 13:12 Wednesday, June 21 to load; she cleared at 04:47 the next morning upbound for Muskegon, MI, with salt. Saginaw cleared at 09:18 Friday, June 23 downbound for Toledo, OH, and Algoma Intrepid arrived at 09:30 to load at Compass Minerals. Algoma Conveyor was also outbound at 13:51 Friday and set course for Johnstown, ON, with salt.

Monday, June 19
Monroe, MI: Olive L. Moore/Menominee arrived to unload at DTE. The tug and barge departed for Calcite once empty.
Toledo, OH: Kaye E. Barker loaded coal at CSX and departed for Zug Island. Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger unloaded a partial cement load and then left for Cleveland with the remainder. Also leaving was Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader to Stoneport.
Marblehead, OH: Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader departed for Fairport Harbor.
Cleveland, OH: Wilfred Sykes is now on the shuttles. Mark W. Barker arrived to load salt at Cargill. Federal Hudson is at the Port and Sea Eagle II/St. Marys Cement II departed for Bowmanville, ON. Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger has a partial load for St. Marys Columbus St. terminal.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Mark W. Barker departed for Cleveland once empty. H. Lee White arrived with more stone for Osborne. She departed for Stoneport after unloading. Next to arrive was Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader with stone for Osborne.
Ashtabula, OH: Algoma Intrepid unloaded at the Pinney dock, then left for Sarnia, ON.
Nanticoke, ON: Algoma Sault departed and has not updated her AIS with a destination. Algotitan left with petroleum products for Tracy, PQ. Algoterra is at Imperial Oil and Harvest Spirit is at Stelco.

Toledo, OH: Sharon M1/Huron Spirit unloaded steel coils and departed for Cleveland. Algoma Conveyor was a late-night arrival. Victory/Maumee is at Torco.
Marblehead, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder is loading stone at Holcim.
Cleveland, OH: Arrivals were McKeil Spirit to unload at Lehigh Cement, Algoma Buffalo to Cliffs, Calumet to unload at Ontario Stone and Sam Laud to unload at RiverDock and West 3rd. Departing were Wilfred Sykes to Dearborn, MI, Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger to Charlevoix, MI, Mark W. Barker with salt for Green Bay and Calumet. Federal Hudson is at the Port.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader departed for Duluth.
Ashtabula, OH: Algoma Intrepid departed for Bruce Mines.
Buffalo, NY: John J. Boland is at CSI. Eider finally got empty and departed. The saltie Shoveler then arrived at Sucro Sourcing after being anchored in Lake Erie for a couple of days while waiting for Eider to finish.
Nanticoke, ON: Algoterra is at Imperial Oil and Algoberta is at anchor. At Stelco, Harvest Spirit loaded steel coils and departed for Windsor, ON. Baie Comeau arrived to unload ore.
Wednesday, June 21
Monroe, MI: Harvest Spirit has steel coils to be unloaded at the Port.
Toledo, OH: Victory/Maumee departed for Calcite once empty. Algoma Conveyor is at Andersons and Mesabi Miner unloaded at Torco then departed for Duluth.
Marblehead, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder departed with stone for Cleveland.
Sandusky, OH: CSL’s Baie Comeau arrived to load coal at Norfolk Southern.
Cleveland, OH: Sharon M1/Huron Spirit arrived at the Port to unload steel coils. She is at Dock 24N. Departures were McKeil Spirit, Sam Laud to Waukegan and Federal Hudson to Detroit. Algoma Buffalo is at Cliffs, American Courage is at Ontario Stone and Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder is at the West 3rd St. stone dock.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Frontenac arrived to load at Morton Salt.
Ashtabula, OH: CSL Welland arrived to unload at the Pinney dock.
Nanticoke, ON: Baie Comeau departed for Sandusky and fleetmate Frontenac took her place to unload ore at Stelco. Once empty, she left for Fairport Harbor. Algoterra departed with petroleum products for St. Romuald, QC. Algoberta moved to load at Imperial Oil.
Thursday, June 22
Monroe, MI: Harvest Spirit departed for Windsor after unloading steel coils.
Toledo, OH: Departing were Algoma Conveyor for Goderich and Hon. James L. Oberstar to Stoneport. The lone arrival was Wilf Seymour/Alouette Spirit going to Midwest Terminals.
Marblehead, OH: Algoma Buffalo is at anchor.
Sandusky, OH: Baie Comeau is loading coal at Norfolk Southern. Michipicoten arrived and docked behind the CSL boat.
Cleveland, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder unloaded stone at West 3rd St then headed to the Bulk Terminal to load a shuttle as American Courage departed for Cedarville after running a shuttle. Also leaving were Sharon M1/Huron Spirit and Algoma Buffalo to Marblehead.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Frontenac loaded at Morton Salt and left for a Lake Ontario port.
Ashtabula, OH: CSL Welland is at the Pinney Dock.
Conneaut, OH: Walter J. McCarthy Jr. has ore for the P&C Dock.

Monroe, MI: Queen of the Lakes Paul R. Tregurtha arrived to unload coal at DTE.
Toledo, OH: Wilf Seymour/Alouette Spirit departed for Courtright. Arrivals were Manitowoc and Saginaw with salt for the ARMS Dock.
Marblehead, OH: First-time visitor Algoma Buffalo loaded stone at Holcim. She left for Windsor once loaded. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder was the next arrival at Holcim.
Sandusky, OH: Baie Comeau left with coal for Picton, ON. Michipicoten had a brief stay at the dock and headed to the Soo. CSL Niagara arrived from Nanticoke to load at Norfolk Southern.
Cleveland, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder unloaded a shuttle and departed for Marblehead.
Ashtabula, OH: CSL Welland and Federal Hudson are at the Pinney Dock.
Conneaut, OH: Walter J. McCarthy, Jr. Is at the P&C Dock.

Toledo, OH: Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin is loading for Nanticoke, ON at CSX. Also at CSX is H. Lee White. Victory/Maumee is at Torco and Algoma Sault is at Midwest Terminals.
Marblehead, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder loaded stone and left for Cleveland.
Lorain, OH: Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader unloaded stone at Carmeuse, then departed with a destination of Silver Bay.
Cleveland, OH: Indiana Harbor departed for Superior, WI. Once the footer cleared, American Courage went to the Bulk Terminal to load a shuttle. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder arrived to unload stone at Osborne Concrete. After getting empty, the tug and barge sailed up the Cuyahoga to Cargill for a load of road salt. Sea Eagle II/St. Marys Cement II departed for Bowmanville, ON.
Fairport Harbor, OH: American Courage departed for Cleveland, then CSL Tadoussac arrived to load at Morton Salt.
Ashtabula, OH: Victoriaborg departed to Chicago.
Buffalo, NY: New York/Double Skin 509A arrived to unload asphalt at Marathon.
Nanticoke, ON: Algoberta and Algosea are loading at Imperial Oil. CSL Tadoussac departed for Fairport Harbor, OH. Atlantic Huron delivered ore to Stelco. Later in the day the Edwin H. Gott arrived to unload more ore at Stelco. Algotitan went on the hook off of Port Dover and was joined by fleetmate Algoterra later in the night.
Tuesday, June 27
Toledo, OH: Departing were Algoma Sault to Sarnia, H. Lee White to Detroit and Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin with coal for Nanticoke. Victory/Maumee is at Torco. Arrivals were Great Republic, Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader for Ironville, Samuel de Champlain/Innovation with cement for Holcim and Prentiss Brown/ St. Marys Challenger with cement for St. Marys. Algoma Transport is anchored in Lake Erie.
Cleveland, OH: Calumet unloaded at Ontario Stone, then departed for Detroit. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder left with road salt for Milwaukee, WI. American Courage is on the shuttles. Late-night arrivals were Mark W. Barker with stone for Osborne and Polsteam’s Lubie to the Port docks.
Fairport Harbor, OH: CSL Tadoussac loaded salt at Morton and departed for Toronto.
Buffalo, NY: New York/Double Skin 509A is unloading at Suit-Kote.
Nanticoke, ON: Departures were Algoberta to Sarnia, Algosea to Tracy Kldair, QC, Edwin H. Gott to Two Harbors and Atlantic Huron to Superior after unloading at Stelco. Algoterra is loading at Imperial Oil and Algotitan is anchored.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
June 20 was a busy day in Buffalo Harbor. The Eider finally got underway from Sucros Sourcing around 13:00 with the Vermont towing her out of Lackawanna stern first. Her tug helped her wind in the Outer Harbor, and the big saltie departed for the Port Colborne Anchorage. The Vermont waited outside the breakwall and then assisted the Shoveler in around 14:00. The ship had bulk cargo on board instead of Super Sacks this time. Then, at 17:00, the John J. Boland arrived with a cargo of sand for the CSI wharf on the City Ship Canal and she came in unassisted.
The saltie Shoveler was all done unloading at the Sucros Sourcing plant in Lackawanna at 13:30 on June 24. She got underway with the tug Oklahoma at her stern and backed into the Outer Harbor. They winded in the Southern Channel off the CRH Terminal, and the Shoveler departed for Sault St. Marie under darkening skies as rain storms came in from the lake. The NACC Alicudi arrived with a cargo of bulk powdered cement for Holcim at 15:45 that afternoon. She was met by the Oklahoma in the North Entrance, winded in the Outer Harbor, and towed up stern first. They had the ship secured at the dock for unloading around 17:00. NACC Alicudi got underway bow first from Holcim with the Oklahoma checking her stern at 13:15. They dropped the tow at the Watson Basin, and the little cement carrier departed the Buffalo River on her own, bound for the loading docks at Bath, ON.
The Ryba Marine tug Thomas R. Morrish arrived in Lackawanna on the evening of June 25 with her work barges. After rearranging her tow, she docked with everything in the Union Ship Canal at the Gateway Metroport dock where they were to load stone for the upcoming breakwall repairs.
Vane Brother’s tug/barge unit New York/DS509A went to anchor off the Buffalo breakwall at 19:00 June 26 after arriving from Marathon in Detroit. The barge had a load of hot asphalt for Suite Kote in Tonawanda, but their arrival time was too late for the Black Rock Lock, so they dropped the hooks out there to wait for morning.
