Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Shortly after 23:00 on Monday night, Atlantic Huron anchored off the Superior piers waiting for the Indiana Harbor to finish loading at BNSF Dock 5. There was no further activity until late Tuesday afternoon when Federal Caribou dropped the hook outside the Duluth Entry. The saltie is expected to arrive Thursday morning to load beet pulp pellets at Gavilon. Indiana Harbor broke a 24-hour drought of traffic moving through the harbor when she departed Superior for Burns Harbor at 21:56; the Atlantic Huron was able to proceed inbound about 30 minutes later to take her place at the dock. Like the Indy, the Huron will be taking on a load of Hibtac pellets. Edgar B. Speer and Presque Isle remain in port for repairs at the port terminal and Fraser Shipyards, respectively. 

Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
Saginaw arrived Two Harbors on 06/27 at 20:34 with help from Heritage Marine’s tug Nels J. The Saginaw is probably loading for Algoma at Soo, Canada. Cliffs North Shore Mining in Silver Bay saw the arrival of the Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader on 6/26 at 20:34.

Saginaw departed Two Harbors on 06/28 at 05:34 for Algoma-Soo. Silver Bay saw the departure of the Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader on 6/28 at 02:59 for Toledo.

Marquette, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
The north side of the LS&I dock received another visit from Interlake’s Hon. James L. Oberstar when the classic laker made port at 02:32 Tuesday morning. She would depart the upper harbor less than eight hours later with another load of ore for the Cleveland-Cliffs Dearborn Works.

Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IL: Spartan/Spartan II finished her voyage up the Calumet River on Monday evening, officially departing port for the other side of Lake Michigan and a trip back to Ludington at 20:43. There was no major vessel traffic on Tuesday, though Algoma Innovator and Fraserborg remain at Compass Minerals and Iroquois, respectively.
Indiana Harbor, IN: Handsome laker Wilfred Sykes steamed up and departed for Grand Haven from Dock 7H at 04:57.
Gary, IN: American Integrity departed at 16:41 for more ore at Two Harbors, passing the inbound Edwin H. Gott carrying the same cargo farther up the lake. The Gott would arrive Gary at 19:40 to unload at the U.S. Steel Gary Works.
Burns Harbor, IN: Federal Champlain arrived at 07:06 and backed into her berth at FMT Burns Harbor. Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 were inbound at 18:19, also for the west arm of the harbor, though it was unclear as of Tuesday night where they had tied up.

Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After fueling up at Mistersky, Laura L. VanEnkevort pushed her barge Joseph H. Thompson out the Detroit River heading upbound for Drummond Island at 00:25. Their fleetmates Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader were also headed upriver after stopping for fuel between 02:09 and 07:32. The second VanEnkevort pair is due next in Superior to load ore at BNSF. Arthur M. Anderson departed at 04:53 for Calcite after servicing SRM Concrete, and American Courage headed downbound for Cleveland an hour later after staying overnight at Carmeuse. Florence Spirit continues her several days’ stop at ADM across the river in Windsor.

Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: Mesabi Miner arrived at 09:38. The footer unloaded coal at DTE. Then left for Duluth at 20:23.
Toledo, OH: Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader departed for Duluth at 01:49. Algoma Transport arrived at 13:45 and went to CSX. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder departed for Cleveland at 19:16. Philip R. Clarke activated her AIS, first time it has been on since February of 2020.
Marblehead, OH: Herbert C. Jackson arrived at 03:31 to load stone at Holcim. She left for Cleveland at 17:32.
Sandusky, OH: CSL Niagara left for Nanticoke at 03:45. Michipicoten arrived at 11:27. She loaded coal for Algoma Steel and departed at 20:32.
Cleveland, OH: Petite Forte/St. Mays Cement departed for Bath, ON at 07:46. Sea Eagle II/St. Marys Cement II arrived at 08:30 and proceeded to the St. Marys Jefferson St. terminal to unload cement. American Courage arrived at the Bulk Terminal at 13:05 to load the first of several shuttles. American Spirit anchored at 18:09. She’ll dock at the Bulk Terminal once the Courage leaves for the Cuyahoga River. Polsteam’s Lubie and Herbert C. Jackson were late night arrivals.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Herbert C. Jackson departed for Marblehead at 01:39.
Conneaut, OH: Michipicoten departed for Sandusky at 03:38. Walter J. McCarthy, Jr. arrived at 15:32 and unloaded taconite at the P&C dock.
Erie, PA: J.S. St. John is dredging in Lake Erie. The saltie Janet C arrived at 18:34.
Nanticoke, ON: Harvest Spirit is at Stelco to load steel coils. She arrived at 07:04. Arrivals were CSL Niagara to unload coal and Frontenac with taconite, both for Stelco and Algocanada for Imperial Oil. The Frontenac anchored as there was no room at Stelco’s dock for her.
