Sunday, June 25
American Century arrived at 11:04 (Central) Sunday morning to fuel before loading at CN#6. Hon. James L. Oberstar arrived in the afternoon at 14:19 with limestone for Hallett Dock 5. Mesabi Miner departed at 20:47 with iron ore pellets for Indiana Harbor. Spartan departed empty for Ludington at 22:01. Finally, Michipicoten arrived at 23:08 to load under the gravity chutes at CN.
Monday, June 26
Hon. James L. Oberstar departed for Marquette empty at 07:57 Monday morning. Algoma Niagara arrived shortly after at 08:26 to unload grain at Elevator A (Hansen-Mueller) from Thunder Bay. After waiting at CN, American Century had their orders changed to loading in Two Harbors; they departed empty at 11:59. Algoma Intrepid arrived at 13:53 with salt for Envirotech at Hallett Dock 8 and Compass Minerals. Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived at 22:32 to load iron ore pellets at CN#6.
Tuesday, June 27
Cruise vessel Hanseatic Inspiration arrived at 07:01 Tuesday morning to spend the day at Port Terminal. Michipicoten departed at 07:39 with iron ore pellets for Algoma Steel. Federal Biscay finally departed at 11:12 after spending more than a week in port unloading cement at Ash Grove. Hanseatic Inspiration departed for Thunder Bay at 18:17. Algoma Intrepid departed at 20:12 empty for Thunder Bay.
Wednesday, June 28
Walter J. McCarthy Jr. departed at 05:48 with iron ore pellets for Cleveland. CSL St. Laurent arrived at 06:06 to load next at CN#6. Algoma Niagara finished off the day’s traffic. Departing at 07:24 empty for Thunder Bay. As of Wednesday night, CSL St. Laurent was still loading at CN. Steamer Philip R. Clarke is expected after sunrise Thursday morning with limestone for Graymont. Sister steamer Arthur M. Anderson is expected early evening with limestone for C. Reiss; they will be loading at CN#6 on departure.
Superior Entry
Interlake’s Paul R. Tregurtha arrived in Superior Monday morning at 08:44 to load iron ore pellets at BNSF; they departed 01:40 the next morning for Burns Harbor. Manitoulin arrived to load next at 01:58. Since they partially loaded in Silver Bay beforehand, it was a quick load allowing them to leave at 08:25 Tuesday morning. Burns Harbor arrived at 04:23 Wednesday morning to load iron ore at BNSF. As of Wednesday night, Burns Harbor was still loading at BNSF; they are expected to depart sometime Thursday morning. Indiana Harbor is expected to arrive Thursday mid-morning to load at BNSF.
Marquette, MI – Arthur Pickering
Marquette harbors have been busy this week. Earlier this week, the Lee Tregurtha, Great Lakes Trader, and the State of Michigan all visited the upper harbor while the cruise ship Ocean Navigator visited the lower harbor and the Joseph Block was anchored in the lower harbor. On Wednesday, the Joseph Block spent a third day anchored in the lower harbor while the Herbert Jackson unloaded limestone at the Shiras dock. Both ships were expected to move up to the ore dock in the upper harbor to load ore and will be joined by Michipicoten who will arrive late Wednesday night. The Maumee will arrive Friday afternoon.
St. Joseph – Benton Harbor, MI – Michael Moran
Rieth-Riley Construction has seen its 5th arrival of the season at Central Dock. This trip was the freighter Manitowoc with aggregate material from Cedarville, Michigan. A portion of the cargo was unloaded in Ludington, with the balance brought to Benton Harbor to maximize the trip’s value. With construction and paving season in full swing, there is a constant need for raw materials.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Toledo, OH: Departing were Victory/Maumee to Sault Ste. Marie, Samuel de Champlain/Innovation to Alpena, Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger to Cleveland and Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader to Detroit. Great Republic is at CSX. Arriving were Evans Spirit to Midwest Terminals and Algoma Transport to Torco.
Sandusky, OH: CSL Niagara arrived to load coal at Norfolk Southern.
Cleveland, OH: Mark W. Barker departed for Marblehead once empty. Lubie is at Dock 24W at the Port with steel coils to be offloaded. American Courage is on a shuttle to Cliffs.
Fairport Harbor, OH: American Mariner unloaded her remaining cargo at Osborne. She left for Calcite once empty.
Ashtabula, OH: American Mariner delivered a partial stone load to Kinder Morgan, then departed to Fairport Harbor.
Conneaut, OH: American Spirit unloaded ore at the P&C dock.
Buffalo, NY: New York/Double Skin 509A departed for Monroe, MI.
Nanticoke, ON: Algoterra and Algocanada are loading petroleum products at Imperial Oil. Algotitan is still at anchor. Rt. Hon. Paul J. Martin arrived with coal for Stelco.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The Vermont came down to help the New York/DS509A out from Suite Kote at 10:00. They met them at the Black Rock Lock around 11:00 and escorted them up to the lake. The New York departed the Buffalo piers in the notch and stopped out near the Safe Water Beacon to switch out of push gear and go “on the wire” before heading up the lake for Detroit to load.
