Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
The Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader arrived Silver Bay at 22:35 on June 1 and departed for Toledo Ironville at 12:50 on June 2. Presque Isle arrived Two Harbors at 04:55 on June 1 and departed at 03:37 on June 2 for Gary Works. The Edgar B. Speer arrived Two Harbors at 04:13 on June 2.
Port Inland, MI – Andrew Meyer
Dirk VanEnkevort is expected to arrive at 1900 on June 2.
Milwaukee, WI – MKE Marine Reports
Viking Octantis arrived at 05:03 Friday and backed to the Heavy Lift Dock where passengers will disembark after an eight-day adventure originating in Thunder Bay. Octantis, which entered service in early 2022, visited Milwaukee eleven times last year. At 665 feet long by 77 feet wide, she is the largest passenger vessel ever to operate on the Great Lakes based on length. At 09:49 her twin, Viking Polaris, arrived on day seven of an eight day cruise that began in Toronto. For Polaris, which entered service in summer of 2022, this is her first visit to the Great Lakes and Milwaukee. With the Heavy Lift Dock occupied, Polaris anchored in the outer harbor and passengers were ferried to the inner harbor in tenders for scheduled shore excursions. Guests will spend one more night onboard enjoying the sites, sounds, and smells of Milwaukee before disembarking. After welcoming a new group of adventurers, Octantis will depart Friday evening for an eight-day cruise to Thunder Bay. Polaris welcomes a new group of guests Saturday and heads back to Toronto Sunday afternoon. This will be her only visit to Milwaukee in 2023.
Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Andrew Meyer
South Chicago, IL: Two Wagenborg vessels are at the head of the river- fan favorite Maxima and the Edenborg. Neither is showing a destination on AIS, but my hunch would be that Duluthians should plan on getting their cameras ready again for the Maxima.
Indiana Harbor, IN: American Integrity became the last arrival of May with a 1254 arrival on the 31st. Her departure on June 1 at 1946 was followed closely by the Great Republic’s and the Joseph L. Block’s arrivals. The Republic would depart Friday morning at 0502, making room at the dock for the Lee A. Tregurtha, which arrived from anchorage at 0514.
Gary, IN: Philip R. Clarke made a good turnaround with an 0400 arrival and a noon departure on Friday. John J. Boland is due Friday evening.
Burns Harbor, IN: A fairly eclectic group has comprised Burns Harbor’s traffic. Seaway visitor BBC Manila arrived at sunrise on May 30. James R. Barker made an appearance at 0731 on Thursday morning, and would spend about 20 hours in port before departing at the 0300 hour. Inbound the same hour was regular visitor Wilfred Sykes. The BBC Manila would be out before 0900, making a busy morning of traffic for the port. A fairly lengthy list is on the arrival schedule. Manitowoc and Stewart J. Cort are scheduled to arrive Friday evening. Burns Harbor and Jamno are due Saturday, and Federal Frontier is expected sometime after Saturday.
St. Joseph – Benton Harbor, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
National Donut Day was especially sweet in St. Joseph — home of the legendary St. Joughnuts — where the perfect combination of ingredients cooked up a very special occasion at Dock 63…
Loaded with 16,000 tons of three different varieties of limestone, river-class vessel Manitowoc was inbound the piers at 06:56 Friday morning to unload at Dock 63. As has become tradition, Harbormaster Michael Moran was on hand to deliver fresh donuts to the vessel’s crew. This particular delivery contained two boxes of pastries from local favorite Red Coach Donuts, including custom life ring-themed crullers exclusive to the St. Joughnuts tradition.
The real icing on the cake, however, was a special delivery of the non-edible kind: a new, full-sized St. Joughnuts flag, embellished with the official St. Joughnuts logo. Presented to the crew by Moran himself, the blue banner was soon hoisted on the foremast and flown proudly upon the vessel’s departure at 14:54. The Manitowoc now becomes the first vessel on the lakes to fly the flag — an honor especially fitting given that her captain was the one to coin the St. Joughnuts name itself.

Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Intrepid cleared 20:22 Monday upbound for Muskegon with salt. Algoma Compass cleared 05:02 Friday upbound for Chicago with salt. Algoma Conveyor arrived 08:32 Friday and is loading at Compass Minerals.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: Harvest Spirit arrived to unload steel coils. A late night arrival was New York/Double Skin 509A with liquid asphalt.
Toledo, OH: CSL Niagara is loading at CSX.
Marblehead, OH: H. Lee White loaded stone and departed to Detroit where she will fuel at Misterskys. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder weighed anchor and moved to the dock to load at Holcim.
Cleveland, OH: McKeil Spirit is unloading at Lehigh Cement. Prentiss Brown/St.Marys Challenger delivered a partial load to the St. Marys Columbus St. terminal, departing for Charlevoix after unloading. A late afternoon arrival was the American Mariner with Tilden pellets for the Bulk Terminal. Federal Katsura is unloading steel at the Port and American Courage is on the shuttles.
Fairport Harbor, OH: CSL Tadoussac departed with salt for Bowmanville, ON.
Conneaut, OH: Defiance/Ashtabula is delivering stone.
Nanticoke, ON: Departing Imperial Oil with petroleum products were Kitikmeot W to Montreal, QC and Algocanada to Sarnia, ON. Frontenac delivered ore to Stelco. She departed for Fairport Harbor once empty.
