CSL Laurentien came in the South Entrance at 07:20 on the 3rd and turned up the Outer Harbor. She came to a stop off the CRH cement terminal and then backed up the Lackawanna Canal without tugs. They tied up the ship at the bulk loading apron to take on a load of coal for delivery to Canada.
The Manitoulin was done unloading at the Standard on the morning of the 3rd and departed without tugs around 08:00, bound for Port Colborne to have a pesky problem with the ship’s Main Compass repaired.
From the News Of The Weird department, June 3rd was a strange day on the waterfront. At approximately 11:13 the Hamburg Water Rescue Unit and the Woodlawn Fire Company were dispatched to Woodlawn Beach State Park for five people who were in an inflatable pool that was adrift on Lake Erie. The caller stated they were about 200 feet off shore in the area of the windmills. Marine 1, the rescue boat, arrived ten minutes later at 11:23 after responding from another nearby event while they were already on the water. All five occupants of the Floaty McFloaty pool were rescued without injury and taken to shore.
