Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
CSL Welland arrived at 17:41 on June 5 and departed at 10:21 on June 6 for Quebec City. Philip R. Clarke arrived Two Harbors next after unloading in the Twin Ports. She arrived at 14:37 on June 6.
Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Without 230 tourists bustling about the city, a quieter day on shore was likewise matched by a quieter day in the harbor. Veteran Tim S. Dool was feeling the threes early Tuesday morning, arriving at 03:33 for G3 and a multi-day load at the elevator. Younger fleetmate Algoma Innovator departed from Thunder Bay Terminals about 10 hours later for Oshawa… the one in Ontario, that is, not Japan. A repeat of her maiden voyage across the Pacific Ocean and through the Panama Canal does not appear to be in the cards anytime soon. Harvest Spirit would eventually depart Richardson Main at 15:54 with an unknown destination, leaving Federal Yukina alone nearby at Richardson Current River.
Sturgeon Bay, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
At 08:00 Monday morning in cozy Door County, the John G. Munson sailed inbound a calm Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal for repairs at Bay Shipbuilding. The 1952-built laker tied up near her former winter lay-up berth just across from idled fleetmate Cason J. Callaway, who still sits waiting in the wings with an uncertain future. Word on the waterfront indicates the Munson suffered a crack in her fuel bunker wall and will only require minor repairs. Unlike the Callaway, she should be back out hauling ore and stone in no time at all.
Holland, MI – Noah H.
Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 arrived at 16:11 to unload stone from Port Inland. Manitowoc also brought stone, but is unloading at Verplank following her 22:36 arrival.
Muskegon, MI – Noah H.
Alpena made another cement delivery at 23:37, coming from Green Bay after a partial unload. Unfortunately, her late arrival meant passengers on the Pearl Mist cruise vessel were not able to see the grand laker, as their 08:13 arrival was followed by a 22:25 departure. The sleek ship appears to be headed to Milwaukee next.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Conveyor cleared 17:49 Sunday downbound for Cote St Catherines with salt. Algoma Intrepid cleared 05:31 Tuesday downbound for Montreal with salt.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Toledo, OH: Herbert C. Jackson departed for Burns Harbor, IN and Wilf Seymour/Alouette Spirit left for Windsor, ON. John D. Leitch arrived to load at CSX. She left in the afternoon and headed to Detroit. Karen Andrie/Endeavor is still at Midwest Terminals.
Kingsville, ON: Tugs Ecosse and Molly M1 are on scene to prepare for the Cuyahoga tow.
Marblehead, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder loaded stone and departed for Marine City, MI.
Sandusky, OH: Regular visitor CSL Niagara arrived to load coal at Norfolk Southern.
Cleveland, OH: Sharon M1/Huron Spirit departed early Tuesday morning. AIS shows a destination of Courtright. Also leaving was Algoma Buffalo with salt for Montreal, QC. American Courage arrived to unload at Ontario Stone. Once empty, she went to the Bulk Terminal to begin another round of shuttles for Cliffs. Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement is unloading. Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson anchored in the lake to wait for American Courage to finish loading. Arriving from Detroit was USCG Morro Bay.
Nanticoke, ON: Atlantic Huron unloaded ore and left for Superior, WI. Algosea arrived later and went on the hook off of Port Dover.
Kingsville, ON – Janey Anderson
McKeil tugs Molly M1 and Ecosse are on the job in Kingsville, On. for the Cuyahoga tow. Looks like weather window for 0700 Thursday morning ETD. The trip will take about 20hrs; they will bring her in at day light; so ETA is early Friday for Ashtabula.
They retrieved the ship’s anchor and three shots of chain on Monday and unloaded it Tuesday. The anchor was just north off the suggested route between Point Pelee and the ferry route. When they dropped anchor during the fire they didn’t have anything to pull it up with before they got towed into Kingsville, so they had to cut it.
