Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Canada’s largest province was the destination of choice for vessels leaving T-Bay on Wednesday, with both Tim S. Dool and Federal Yukina departing for Quebecois ports of call. The Dool cleared at 19:23 for Quebec City, QC, itself, loaded with what was likely grain from the G3 elevator. Federal Yukina was outbound at 21:37 from Richardson Current River with a load for Sorel, QC.
Marquette, MI – Arthur Pickering
The cruise ship Ocean Navigator arrived in Marquette’s lower harbor Wednesday morning. Currently enroute to Marquette are the Great Lakes Trader that was due to arrive Wednesday afternoon and the Joseph Block that should arrive late Thursday afternoon.
St. Marys River – Know Your Ships
The former Neebish Island ferry Neebish Islander II departed Wednesday morning bound for Calumet Harbor. There is no word as to who her new owner is. The ferry was replaced last fall by the new Neebish Islander III. An interesting photo op occurred Wednesday morning when the passenger ship Viking Octantis was upbound in the Poe Lock while Hanseatic Inspiration was downbound in the Mac Lock.
Brevort, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
John J. Boland departed at 10:30 with sand for Buffalo, NY.
Stoneport, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
H. Lee White departed at 04:00 with stone for Belle River, MI.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Compass arrived 22:02 Tuesday and loaded at Compass Minerals.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Wednesday traffic began not with an official port call, but rather a shift within the harbor, as Calumet moved farther up the River Rouge from Carmeuse to Morton midmorning. Nearby, Florence Spirit finished loading petroleum coke west of Zug Island and departed for Hamilton, ON, at 08:59. CSL Tadoussac was also on the Rouge after arriving shortly after 10:00; the Taddy Daddy backed up to St. Marys Cement to unload.
With a little more pomp and circumstance, cruise ship Viking Polaris arrived at 11:08 and pulled up to the port authority dock for an afternoon visit. The passengers, all revved up to see the Motor City, would have until a little after 18:00 to take in the sights before the cruise continued on to Point Pelee.
Across the Detroit River, Robert S. Pierson made a late-night stop at 23:00 with stone from Thessalon, ON. She tied up at Southwestern Sales West to unload a portion of her cargo. At the same time, sister Calumet was making her way to Mistersky to fuel up back in Detroit.
Federal Yukon spent the day at anchor off Windsor Salt, likely waiting her turn for ADM.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: Returning was New York/Double Skin 509A.
Toledo, OH: Arrivals were Radcliffe R. Latimer, Hon. James L. Oberstar and Manitoulin. Departures were John D. Leitch for Hamilton, Karen Andrie/Endeavor to Indiana Harbor and Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger, which unloaded a partial load then left for Cleveland.
Sandusky, OH: CSL Niagara departed with coal for Hamilton, ON.
Cleveland, OH: Mark W. Barker arrived with stone for Osborne. After unloading she went to the Bulk Terminal to load a shuttle. Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson has stone for RiverDock. Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement is unloading at St. Marys. Cruise ship Ocean Voyager was at the Port. The passengers disembarked to visit the city of Cleveland sights. Once everyone was back aboard, they left for Detroit. Sam Laud is tied down at Lehigh Cement. Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger was a late night arrival to the Columbus St. facility of St. Marys Cement.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Frontenac arrived to load at Morton Salt.
Conneaut, OH: Walter J. McCarhty, Jr. delivered ore to the P&C Dock. She departed for the Twin Ports of Duluth-Superior once empty.
Nanticoke, ON: Algoterra is loading at Imperial and Edwin H. Gott has ore for Stelco. Algosea is at anchor.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The saltie Eider was escorted into Gateway Metroport in Lackawanna on the 7th of June at 15:00 by the Vermont. She had a load of raw cane sugar on board for Sucros Sourcing that came from Puerto Cortez, Honduras.
