Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
Edga
r B. Speer loading at Two Harbors for Gary Works. Presque Isle heading for Gary Works.

Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After over a day without boats in T-Bay, cruise ship Viking Octantis broke the dry spell with an 18:19 evening arrival for Pool 6. She and her passengers had spent their morning and afternoon at Silver Islet, ON, on the other side of the Sleeping Giant.

As far as freighters go, Navibulgar’s Lyulin and Wagenborg’s Elbeborg teased boatnerds by anchoring off the harbor breakwalls. Both salties are due in soon to load.

Houghton, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Traversing the Keweenaw Waterway as part of her first Lake Superior cruise this season, Ocean Navigator was welcomed into Houghton for a visit at 07:29. Her passengers enjoyed the day in town before getting back on board and departing for the lake at 16:21. Next on the itinerary is a stop in the Twin Ports.

Marquette, MI – Noah H.
Ocean Navigator arrived at 07:16 on Wednesday morning. Before the passengers left for their next destination, Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader arrived in the evening at 18:20. Eventually, the Navigator departed for Houghton at 20:52. On Thursday, Joyce kicked things off with a 09:41 departure for Toledo, and Joseph L. Block capped the day with a 17:24 arrival, one of only a handful for the season. Lee A. Tregurtha is due on Friday- it remains to be seen if the Block will still be at the dock.

Grand Haven, MI – Noah H.
Steamer Wilfred Sykes represented the first traffic in over two weeks at Grand Haven, arriving from Indiana Harbor at 22:51 to unload at Meekhof’s D&M. Caroline McKee/Commander is due to join the Sykes in port with a morning arrival.

Muskegon, MI – Noah H.
It was a jam-packed Thursday in Muskegon, starting with the 07:57 arrival of the Kaye E. Barker, coming with stone from Calcite. On her way to the Verplank dock, she passed the outbound Alpena, which finally finished a long unload with an 08:51 departure. The two posed for a picture as they crossed paths, representing over 150 combined years of service. The Barker stayed for the afternoon before heading back out for Calcite with her 17:43 departure. A few hours later, at 21:05, cruise vessel Pearl Mist made another stop in Muskegon, her second in three days after apparently exchanging out some passengers in Milwaukee.

Stoneport, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder arrived at 02:00 in the dark of night, later clearing for Detroit, MI, with stone at 16:00.

Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Early Thursday morning, a pair of river-class veterans were on the move in the Motor City. Filled up with fuel from Mistersky and a date with the Windy City on her mind, Calumet cast off her lines and continued upbound for Lake St. Clair at around 01:00. Her corporate cousin Robert S. Pierson, identical in nearly every way save the Canadian flag flying from her stern, was sailing in the opposite direction down the river about 2 hours later. A partial load of stone for Kingsville, ON, remained in her holds after discharging a portion at Southwestern Sales West. It seems safe to assume that Robby will be taking over some of the Cuyahoga’s typical cargoes while the latter undergoes repairs.

At 08:00, the port authority dock played host to a cruise ship yet again as Ocean Voyager arrived with passengers on an upbound excursion. 1,000-foot Walter J. McCarthy Jr. was inbound from Conneaut, OH, at 10:28 to fuel at Mistersky; ex-saltie Algoma Guardian stopped for a drink of her own across the river at Sterling around 14:00. The McCarthy cleared at 14:58 for Two Harbors, MN, the Guardian at 20:00 for Superior, WI. In the meantime, Harvest Spirit came in from the north for ADM at 15:15, where she appears to be unloading product loaded in Thunder Bay, ON. Federal Yukon is on the hook nearby and likely waiting her turn. The Voyager bid farewell at 17:48 for the American Soo, and CSL Tadoussac slithered outbound the River Rouge for Bowmanville, ON, at 20:32.
