Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
After nearly 24 hours without a vessel passage, the Twin Ports enjoyed a Wednesday resurgence in traffic throughout the day. This was especially true of the Superior side of the harbor, where CSL Assiniboine arrived at 04:12 to take on taconite at BNSF Dock 5. CSL Niagara and Frontenac arrived to anchor off the piers at 05:45 and 08:30, respectively, waiting for their fleetmate to finish loading. James R. Barker and her “Barker Bark” were back in Duluth Wednesday morning when the 1,004-foot vessel arrived empty and loud at 11:23. She proceeded to the Superior Midwest Energy Terminal to load a split load of coal for St. Clair and Monroe. American Spirit, originally scheduled to load in Marquette, was inbound the Superior piers at 16:40 to take a delay at the former Lakehead Pipeline dock. CSL Assiniboine cleared the entry Quebec-bound with 30,000 tons of Hibtac an hour later, allowing CSL Niagara to take her turn at the dock. James R. Barker cleared the Duluth piers at 22:07 with 58,000 tons of coal.

Marquette, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
On Tuesday, June 7, Hon. James L. Oberstar departed at 05:38 with Tilden pellets for the Cleveland-Cliffs Dearborn Works. She took her load at the southern side of the LS&I dock. On Wednesday morning at 11:39, USCGC Hollyhock was inbound the southern portion of the harbor before proceeding to the north and departing for Rasce Marina at 14:14. The Coast Guard cutter was likely conducting aids to navigation operations. Frequent visitors Victory/Maumee arrived at 11:49 and spent the next five hours loading ore for Toledo. Like the Oberstar, they used the chutes to the south.
Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IL: Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 arrived Wednesday, June 8 for what appeared to be the Reserve Marine Terminals at 02:03. The pair departed for Burns Harbor at 18:38, passing Ebroborg at the Iroquois Landing Lakefront Terminal on their way out.
Indiana Harbor, IN: Tuesday, June 7 saw the arrival of the Joseph L. Block for Dock 7H at 13:13 before she departed for Burns Harbor at 18:58. Mesabi Miner was inbound minutes later, also for 7H. The following morning, Manitowoc arrived at 03:00 and squeezed past the Miner to tie up at the north end of 7H. The latter departed at 12:28 for an unspecified port (likely Duluth-Superior), and American Integrity took her place around 14:00. Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 were inbound from Calumet Harbor at 19:07 and anchored in the inner harbor.
Gary, IN: Indiana Harbor departed at 06:53 on June 7 for a Lake Superior port.
Burns Harbor, IN: Arriving at 04:02 Tuesday morning for the southern end of the Cleveland-Cliffs dock was famed steamer Wilfred Sykes. Her fleetmate Joseph L. Block anchored off the breakwater at 21:00 before making her way inbound at 07:33 Wednesday morning. As the Block arrived, the Sykes shifted to the north and later departed for Grand Haven at 22:08. Narie and Federal Leda have been at Federal Marine Terminals and Metro Ports, respectively, since the last report.
St. Joseph – Benton Harbor, MI: Manitowoc arrived at 15:30 on June 7 with 16,000 tons of stone for Dock 63. She departed at 23:48 that night for Indiana Harbor.

Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
H. Lee White was the first vessel to visit Detroit on Tuesday, June 7, stopping in port from 03:51 to 06:46 to fuel at Mistersky before continuing upbound for Drummond Island. G.L. Ostrander/Integrity arrived at 07:56 to unload cement at Lafarge, while Florence Spirit tied up on the western side of Zug Island before noon to load petroleum coke. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder arrived at 14:03 for Morton Salt on the River Rouge before departing for Cleveland at 20:04. The Ostrander and her barge were outbound at 22:39, due next in Toledo. On June 8, Michipicoten made port at 09:31 to discharge aggregate cargo at the Levy dock. She would sail out the Rouge and across the Detroit River for Miller Aggregates Southwest at 17:00. Viking Octantis stopped in port at 11:31; as usual, her passengers came ashore at Nicholson to visit attractions in the city. American Century was inbound 15 minutes later to fuel at Mistersky and departed for Duluth-Superior at 14:39. Interlake’s Kaye E. Barker was the next customer at the fuel dock around 17:00, while Florence Spirit left Zug for Hamilton at the same time. The Barker would leave for Stoneport two-and-a-half hours later. Herbert C. Jackson arrived for Levy at 17:22, Viking Octantis departed with her passengers at 18:26 for Point Pelee, and Hon. James L. Oberstar sailed down the Detroit River at 19:40 bound for the Cleveland-Cliffs Dearborn Works. Michipicoten departed for an unknown port at 20:29. Arriving in Windsor at 22:00 was Algoma Innovator, which tied up at Miller Aggregates Southwest to unload.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: American Century departed for the Twin Ports at 11:36. The asphalt tanker Iver Bright arrived at 15:00.
Toledo, OH: Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger left for Cleveland. In port are Great Republic at CSX, Federal Hudson at Midwest, and Miedwie at Kuhlman’s. Algoma Transport is due early Thursday morning.
Sandusky, OH: Manitoulin left for the Soo at 01:07. Evans Spirit departed at 13:24 with coal for Hamilton.
Cleveland, OH: American Courage arrived at 04:32 and unloaded stone at RiverDock. She left for Bruce Mines at 14:56. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder arrived Cargill at 05:01 to load salt. Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger arrived from Toledo at 10:01, unloaded a partial load of cement, and left for Charlevoix at 14:44. Sea Eagle II/St. Marys Cement II weighed anchor at 14:04 and went to the Jefferson St. terminal to unload. Flevoborg departed for Chicago at 16:37.
Erie, PA: Kaye E. Barker departed for Stoneport at 03:27.
Nanticoke, ON: Sarah Desgagnes departed for Montreal at 12:14. Algonova arrived at Imperial Oil at 04:34. CSL Tadoussac is at Stelco, arriving at 06:29 to unload ore. She left for Superior at 19:06. Algosea anchored off of Port Dover at 17:02.
Hamilton, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Chem Hydra weighed anchor early Tuesday morning and tied up at West Way around 06:10. She will be discharging UAN at the dock after waiting for several days on the hook. The only other vessel traffic of the day was the arrival of the Algoma Buffalo with salt for GLS at 19:55. She would depart the following morning at 05:14 for Cleveland, and Redhead entered the canal at 13:48 with steel from Samalaju, South Korea. The cargo is currently being offloaded at Federal Marine Terminals Dock 12 North. Several vessels have remained at their berths since the last report: Irma is at Agrico with urea, Wicky Spirit is undergoing repairs at QSL, Solina is loading grain at P&H, and Federal Biscay continues to unload steel coils at Federal Marine Terminals Dock 12 East.
