St. Marys River – Joshua Hebeisen
After spending the night at Lime Island, USCGCs Morro Bay, Katmai Bay, and Mackinaw all fired up the engines and got to work de-icing the St. Marys River on Saturday morning. Morro would make the full trek north and dock in the Soo at 14:58, with USCGC Biscayne Bay entering the river from below in the evening to fill in.

Midland, ON – Connor Earl
ADM Milling has confirmed that CSL Frontenac, originally scheduled for departure on Saturday, has had mechanical issues that’ve forced the delay of unloading. Saying once unloading is underway, it can take up to 30 hours. Ice Breaking Operations in the bay are currently on hold.

Port Huron, MI – Sarnia, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Algoterra arrived at 12:18 to join fleetmate Algosea at Imperial Oil. Both tankers are discharging petroleum products from Nanticoke, ON. Iver Bright is down the river at Suncor.

Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After a few months of nothing but salt and liquid bulk handled in the Motor City, mid-March is bringing with it a taste of what’s to come in the weeks ahead. At 12:59, Harvest Spirit departed after unloading a batch of steel coils from the Soo at Nicholson Detroit. Her next stop, Sandusky, OH, would coincidentally be the source of the day’s first and only upbound traffic, a half-awake and coal-laden Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader. The VTB pair was just recently woken from their slumber in Cleveland, OH, and would take the honor of being first at Zug Island this season.

Amherstburg, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
CCGS Griffon returned home at 08:28 after some icebreaking escapades on Lake Erie.

Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Not a busy day on Lake Erie on Saturday. Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader loaded coal and departed for Zug Island. McKeil’s Harvest Spirit is at anchor off of  Sandusky.
