Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
The heating up of vessel traffic after several uneventful days compensated for a somewhat colder Monday in Duluth-Superior. Whitefish Bay kicked things off by departing the Superior Entry with Hibtac from BNSF 5 at 03:58 As she proceeded outbound for Quebec City, her inbound fleetmate CSL Tadoussac performed a circle in the lake to give her room. Tadoussac would arrive shortly after at 04:21 to load Keetac pellets. Over in Duluth, Great Republic arrived at 09:40 on her first trip of the season with limestone for Hallett 5. She shifted over to CN 6 for taconite after unloading, where it appeared that she took on a partial load at the gravity dock before moving to the shiploader. Tadoussac departed BNSF at 13:34 for Nanticoke, and Manitoulin arrived at 14:59 to take her place at the dock. Just after the action in Superior, Paul R. Tregurtha made her weekly arrival at the Duluth side of the harbor to load coal at Midwest Energy. On this particular trip, she is scheduled to take on a split load for St. Clair and Monroe. USCGC Spar arrived shortly after the Tregurtha upon completion of her aids to navigation operations near Ashland. She tied up at the DECC dock for less than an hour before proceeding to her berth at the Coast Guard station. Manitoulin rounded out the day when she departed for the Soo with Keetac at 22:20.
Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
Presque Isle departed Two Harbors Monday at 02:57 for Conneaut. She had been at north of #2, but finished up at the shiploader. Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived for south of #2 just after Presque Isle departed; as of 19:30, she is still at the dock. Edwin H. Gott is currently NE of Outer Island heading for Two Harbors.
Thunder Bay, ON
Captain Henry Jackman departed for Quebec City Sunday at 19:09. The following morning at 00:50, saltie Sunda departed the Superior Elevator for Montreal, where she will top off her load grain before sailing overseas.
Northern Lake Michigan Ports
Port Inland, MI: American Mariner departed for Muskegon at 0:03 Monday.
Charlevoix, MI: Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger departed for Owen Sound with cement products Sunday at 17:48.
Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Joshua Hebeisen
Calumet Harbor, IN: John D. Leitch arrived the harbor just after midnight, where she spun around inside the breakwater and backed down the Calumet River to unload at Central Salt. The rest of the day’s traffic was made up entirely by cement-carrying tug/barge combinations. After laying up at Lake Calumet since April 11, Bradshaw McKee/St. Marys Conquest departed for Charlevoix at 10:53. Samuel de Champlain/Innovation were inbound at 10:55 less than 24 hours after last being in port to unload more cement products at Lafarge. On their way to the dock, the pair made a quick stop just above the Ozinga terminal. Caroline McKee/Commander arrived at noon for St. Marys Cement; they too tied up north of Ozinga for quick visit while navigating the river.
Indiana Harbor, IN: Mesabi Miner arrived to unload Minorca pellets from Two Harbors at Dock 7H.
Gary, IN: Indiana Harbor departed at 00:15 for Two Harbors. Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 made port at 08:37 and tied up at the far south end of the east side of the slip; they later departed at 23:01.
Burns Harbor, IN: Burns Harbor departed her namesake port at 03:06 for more Hibtac at Superior, and Wilfred Sykes followed her outbound at 04:08 for Grand Haven. Both vessels had been tied up at the Cleveland-Cliffs dock. Salties Lubie and Federal Churchill are still in port at Federal Marine Terminals and Metro Ports, respectively.
St. Joseph-Benton Harbor, MI: Samuel de Champlain/Innovation departed at 06:37 en route to another visit at Lafarge on the Calumet River.
Northern Lake Huron Ports
Port Gypsum, MI: John J. Boland departed Sunday at 19:40 for Waukegan.
Port Dolomite, MI: Michipicoten departed for Sombra Monday at 02:11. Olive L. Moore/ Menominee arrived at 17:33 to load limestone.
Bruce Mines, ON: Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader arrived Sunday at 21:31 to load trap rock.
Thessalon, ON: Algoma Sault arrived to load stone at 16:29 Monday.
Meldrum Bay, ON: Sunday at 17:23, Saginaw departed for Lorain. Herbert C. Jackson arrived shortly after to finish loading with limestone and also departed for Lorain.
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Saltie Greenwing continues loading at the elevators. Algoma Innovator arrived at 17:58 Monday and is at Compass Minerals to load salt; this is her sixth appearance of the season.
Detroit, MI – Windsor, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
After spending the night at the southern end of Zug Island, Algoma Transport shifted to Mistersky for fuel at 02:30 before departing for Toledo at 07:37. At the same time, Arthur M. Anderson left upbound for Stoneport after discharging limestone at SRM Concrete. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder were inbound the River Rouge mid-morning to unload at Great Lakes Aggregates; at the same time, Rodopi arrived Morterm from anchorage and Federal Baltic tied up at ADM, both on the Windsor side of the Detroit River. Dorothy Ann pushed Pathfinder out the Rouge bound for Marblehead at 14:38.
Lake Erie Ports – Bill Kloss
Monroe, MI: Karen Andrie/Endeavor left for Indiana Harbor at 16:12.
Toledo, OH: Calumet arrived at 06:55, unloaded salt and departed for Calcite at 10:12. Algoma Transport arrived at CSX at 12:11, while Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader arrived for Ironville at 14:52.
Marblehead, OH: Sam Laud departed with stone at 19:04.
Sandusky, OH: Herbert C. Jackson arrived at 19:02 to load coal.
Lorain, OH: Herbert C. Jackson arrived at 07:31 to unload stone at Carmeuse; she departed for Sandusky at 16:44. Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson was inbound at 12:16 to unload stone at Lafarge. Saginaw arrived at 20:20 and anchored in Lake Erie.
Cleveland, OH: Departures were Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder with salt for Detroit, Federal Baltic at 02:44 for Windsor, Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement for Bowmanville at 08:47 and McKeil Spirit at 09:59 for Picton. Federal Fraser and Peyton Lynn C are at the Port of Cleveland docks.
Nanticoke, ON: Federal Sakura left for Montreal at 04:44. Algoma Conveyor arrived Stelco at 09:14, while Algoma Hansa arrived Imperial Oil at 06:56 and joined fleetmate Algocanada at the dock.
Hamilton, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Bogdan arrived at 11:10 for anchorage in the inner harbor alongside fellow salties Shoveler and Lake St. Clair. G3 Marquis arrived at 14:46 with ore for ArcelorMittal Dofasco, and Kitikmeot W was outbound for Trinidad and Tobago at 16:42 after unloading UAN at Agrico. Federal Mayumi and Federal Oshima are still loading grain at P&H and G3, respectively, while Federal Beaufort and Algoma Guardian are both discharging steel products at Federal Marine Terminals.
