Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Scott Bjorklund
May 3–5
Duluth Entry
American Century was first to arrive after the recent high-wind event on the lake at 19:03 (Central) Wednesday evening to fuel before loading coal at SMET. American Integrity arrived a few hours later at 21:02 to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. Arthur M. Anderson arrived with limestone at 01:30 Thursday morning. For Thursday, American Century departed at 11:08 with low sulfur coal bound for St. Clair, Michigan. Michipicoten arrived later in the day at 16:55 to load iron ore pellets after the American Integrity at CN. Friday morning was busy with American Integrity departing at 05:32 with iron ore pellets, John G. Munson arriving at 07:02 to load at CN, and Arthur M. Anderson departing at 07:48 empty for Two Harbors. Michipicoten finished the day’s traffic for the Duluth Entry when they departed at 14:23 despite high winds coming off the lake.
As of Friday night, John G. Munson was loading at CN#6. Great Republic is expected early Saturday morning to unload limestone at Graymont; they will either load at CN Duluth or Two Harbors before departing the area. Also expected is Paul R. Tregurtha mid-morning for another load of coal at SMET.
Superior Entry
Mesabi Miner departed Superior at 17:06 (Central) Wednesday early evening with iron ore pellets for Burns Harbor. Tug Victory and barge Maumee arrived at 00:07 Thursday morning for a quick visit to Lakehead Pipeline. Clyde S. VanEnkevort was next to load at BNSF, arriving at 07:26 that morning. Victory and Maumee departed soon after at 09:04 to load iron ore pellets in Two Harbors. Indiana Harbor arrived at 14:54 to also use Lakehead before loading in Two Harbors. Clyde S. VanEnkevort departed at 18:55 with iron ore pellets, allowing Oakglen to arrive next for BNSF at 19:20. Oakglen departed at 13:38 Friday afternoon with iron ore pellets for Quebec City. Finally, Indiana Harbor departed port at 18:12 to load in Two Harbors.
As of Friday night, only John J. Boland at Fraser Shipyards was the only laker in port on the Superior side. Burns Harbor will be next to load at BNSF sometime on Sunday.
Duluth Entry
It was a very foggy day for crews in the Twin Ports. John G. Munson departed at 07:07 (Central) with iron ore pellets for Indiana Harbor. Great Republic arrived at 10:28 with limestone for Graymont; they departed at 20:21 empty for Two Harbors. Finally, Paul R. Tregurtha departed at 21:44 with coal for St. Clair. As of Saturday night, all was quiet on the Duluth side. Polsteam’s Solina is the only expected arrival for Sunday; they should be arriving early to mid-morning to load wheat at CHS#1.
Superior Entry
Because of the fog, Paul R. Tregurtha arrived through Superior at 07:26 to load coal at SMET. As of Saturday night, only John J. Boland was in port at Fraser. Burns Harbor is expected early afternoon to load at BNSF#5.
May 7
Duluth Entry
Another foggy day in the Twin Ports! Polsteam’s Solina arrived at 06:47 (Central) Sunday morning to load wheat at CHS#1. As of Sunday night, no vessels were in port on the Duluth side. Michipicoten is expected early Monday morning to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. Algoma Transport is also expected before sunrise with a load of salt for Compass Minerals. Michipicoten, known to load quickly, will most likely be departing mid-morning or earlier. Edwin H. Gott is expected mid-morning to load next at CN#6.
Superior Entry
Burns Harbor arrived at 13:35 (Central) Sunday afternoon to load iron ore pellets at BNSF#5. As of Sunday night, Solina was loading at CHS#1, John J. Boland was still at Fraser, and Burns Harbor was loading at BNSF. Once Burns Harbor departs, Stewart J. Cort will be loading next at BNSF.
May 8–9
Duluth Entry
Michipicoten arrived early Monday morning at 00:34 (Central) to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. Edwin H. Gott arrived at 08:33 to load at the same dock. Algoma Transport arrived from anchor at 13:49 to unload salt at Envirotech-Hallett #8. Michipicoten departed at 22:12 Monday night with iron ore pellets for Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Hon. James L. Oberstar arrived at 06:19 Tuesday morning with limestone for CN-Hallett #5. Edwin H. Gott departed soon after at 07:15 with iron ore pellets for Cleveland. Algoma Transport departed at 08:15 empty for Thunder Bay. American Century arrived at 09:58 to fuel then load coal at SMET. Finally, Mesabi Miner arrived at 22:02 Tuesday night to load coal at SMET after American Century.
As of Tuesday night, Hon. James L. Oberstar was loading iron ore pellets at CN#6. American Century is estimated to depart early Wednesday morning with low sulfur coal. Hon. James L. Oberstar should also be departing sometime in the morning. Mesabi Miner will depart sometime in the afternoon depending on the Century’s departure from SMET.
Superior Entry
Burns Harbor departed at 08:24 (Central) Monday morning with iron ore pellets. Stewart J. Cort arrived at 09:15 to load at BNSF. Stewart J. Cort departed Superior at 14:18 Tuesday afternoon, also with iron ore pellets for Burns Harbor. As of Tuesday night, American Century was loading at SMET, Solina was still loading at CHS#1, and John J. Boland was still drydocked at Fraser. CSL Assiniboine is expected mid-afternoon Wednesday for BNSF.
May 11–12
Duluth Entry
Clyde S. VanEnkevort arrived at 16:13 (Central) Thursday afternoon with limestone for the C.Reiss Dock. John G. Munson arrived a little later at 16:57 to load iron ore pellets at CN#6. Steamer Philip R. Clarke arrived for the first time this season at 19:21 to wait at CN for space at C.Reiss. Michipicoten arrived at 03:35 Friday morning to load under the gravity chutes at CN while the Munson loaded under the conveyors. Clyde S. VanEnkevort departed empty at 06:14 to load in Silver Bay. John G. Munson departed at 12:18 with iron ore pellets for Gary. Michipicoten departed at 14:15 with iron ore for Sault Ste. Marie. Finally, steamer Philip R. Clarke departed empty at 16:47 empty for Two Harbors.
As of Friday night, no vessels were in port on the Duluth side. Paul R. Tregurtha is expected late Friday to load coal at SMET. Ocean-going vessel UAL Fortitude is due Saturday mid-morning to unload general cargo at Port Terminal.
Superior Entry
CSL Assiniboine departed at 03:38 (Central) Thursday morning with iron ore pellets for Quebec City. Algoma Guardian arrived at 12:07 to load at BNSF. American Integrity arrived at 13:35 to wait their turn at Lakehead Pipeline; they moved over to load once Algoma Guardian departed at 02:24 Friday morning. As of Friday night, American Integrity was loading at BNSF while John J. Boland was still drydocked at Fraser. American Integrity is estimated to depart Saturday early afternoon with iron ore. Algoma Discovery will be loading next at BNSF.
Two Harbors, MN – Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
Presque Isle first arrived Two Harbors for N of #2 layby after which she shifted to the loading dock and after which she departed at 09:34. Arthur M. Anderson arrived 5/5 at 10:36 and departed at 19:01. Indiana Harbor arrived Two Harbors on 5/5 at 20:35 and she departed on 5/6 at 12:37 for Gary.
Walter J. McCarthy Jr. arrived Two Harbors on 5/10 at 18:40 and she departed on 5/11 at 08:50 for Gary. Presque Isle arrived Two Harbors on 5/11 at 08:53 and she departed at 19:34.
Philip R. Clarke arrived Two Harbors at 18:37 on 5-12. The Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader arrived Cliffs-North Shore Mining on 10:02 on 5-12 and she departed at 18:44 for Toledo.
Marquette, MI – Arthur Pickering
USCG Spar was in the area performing buoy maintenance on Monday, May 8. The American Spirit arrived on the 9th and loaded at the ore dock.
Milwaukee, WI – MKE Marine Reports
Beginning her twentieth season, Lake Express, Lake Michigan’s high speed ferry, cleared for Muskegon at 06:07 Friday, May 5. After delivering European steel at Federal Marine Terminals, Solina cleared for Duluth at 18:27 Thursday, May 4. After unloading cement at the Kinnickinnic River terminal, Bradshaw McKee/St. Marys Conquest cleared for Charlevoix at 01:50. Viking Octantis was still at the Heavy Lift Dock. G.L. Ostrander/Integrity was expected very late on the 5th with cement for Lafarge (Holcim).
USCGC Mackinaw arrived from Chicago at 07:07 Thursday, May 11. After picking up buoys that had spent winter on the open dock, south slip one, outer harbor, she departed at 12:41. Albert/Margaret arrived from Cheboygan at 14:50 Thursday and proceeded to the Liquid Cargo Pier. The pair cleared for Green Bay at 14:12 Friday. Prentiss Brown, now pushing barge St. Marys Conquest, arrived at 03:34 Friday, May 12, with cement for the Kinnickinnic River terminal. Polsteam’s Narie arrived from Burns Harbor at 06:16 on the 12th with steel from IJmuiden. Assisted by G-Tug Hawaii, she backed into south slip one, outer harbor, and tied up at the Federal Marine Terminals dock. Alpena arrived from Alpena at 15:23 with cement for Lafarge (Holcim).
Goderich, ON – Bruce Douglas
Algoma Transport cleared 05:05 Saturday upbound for Duluth with salt. Algoma Buffalo cleared 19:13 Monday downbound for Cote St Catherines with salt. Federal Seto cleared 08:50 Tuesday downbound for Montreal. Algoma Innovator arrived 09:02 Tuesday and is loading at Compass Minerals. Algoma Innovator cleared at 00:12 Wednesday downbound for Toledo, Ohio with salt. Algoma Compass arrived 07:06 Friday and loaded at Compass Minerals next.

Monroe, MI: New York/Double Skin 509A departed for Detroit. Harvest Spirit arrived to unload steel coils at the Port dock.
Kingsville, ON: The classic Maritime vessel Cuyahoga arrived to unload stone at Southwestern Sales Co.
Toledo, OH: Arrivals were Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader to unload at Ironville and Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger for the St. Marys terminal. Sharon M1/Huron Spirit departed for Cleveland.
Sandusky, OH: CSL Niagara arrived to load coal at Norfolk Southern. Kaye E. Barker docked behind the CSL boat and is waiting to load.
Lorain, OH: Kaye E. Barker arrived with stone for Carmeuse. Once empty she departed for Sandusky.
Cleveland, OH: Mark W. Barker finished unloading at Osborne and moved to Cargill to load salt. She left for Green Bay once loaded. American Courage is back on the shuttles for Cliffs and Wilfred Sykes finally made it up the river to Cliffs to unload coke. The Sykes left for Toledo once she finished her offload.
Ashtabula, OH: The saltie Ocean Castle arrived at the Pinney Dock.
Erie, PA: Defiance/Ashtabula brought in stone for Carmeuse.
Nanticoke, ON: Harvest Spirit left with steel coils for Monroe, MI. Algocanada and Everlast/Norman McLeod are loading at Imperial Oil. CSL Assiniboine unloaded at Stelco then left for Detroit. Edwin H. Gott and CSL Tadoussac were next to arrive to unload at Stelco. The Gott left for Duluth once empty. Algoterra, Algosea and Algoberta are all anchored off of Port Dover.
May 6
Monroe, MI: Harvest Spirit departed for Thunder Bay, ON.
Kingsville, ON: Cuyahoga left for Marblehead and loaded at Holcim. She then returned to Kingsville with another delivery for Southwestern Sales.
Toledo, OH: Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger departed for Cleveland and Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader left for Marquette. Wilfred Sykes is loading at CSX Dock 1. The saltie Bogdan is at Kuhlman’s.
Marblehead, OH: Sharon M1/Huron Spirit arrived to load at Holcim.
Sandusky, OH: CSL Niagara departed with coal for Hamilton and Kaye E. Barker moved under the loader. Next in line is Algoma Sault, berthed behind the Barker.
Cleveland, OH: American Spirt brought in 50,000 tons of Tilden pellets to the Bulk Terminal. With a partial load of cement, Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger arrived to unload at St. Marys Columbus St. terminal. Sharon M1/Huron Spirit departed for Marblehead and Polsteam’s Narie left with a destination of Burns Harbor, IN. Federal Oshima is still at the Port docks.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Frontenac is loading at Morton Salt and fleetmate CSL Tadoussac is anchored in Lake Erie.
Ashtabula, OH: Ocean Castle is at the Pinney dock.

May 7

Toledo, OH: Wilfred Sykes is at CSX and Defiance/Ashtabula departed and is headed to Detroit. Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader is at Ironville.
Marblehead, OH: Sharon M1/Huron Spirit was at anchor while Cuyahoga is loading at Holcim. Cuyahoga took another load of stone to Southwestern Sales in Kingsville, unloaded then left for Morton Salt in Detroit. Sharon M1/Huron Spirit loaded stone and left for Windsor.
Sandusky, OH: Kaye E. Barker left with coal fur Zug Island in Detroit. Algoma Sault then moved under the loader.
Lorain, OH: Laura L. VanEnkevort/Joseph H. Thompson brought in stone for Terminal Ready Mix. The tug and barge departed for Meldrum Bay once empty.
Cleveland, OH: American Spirit departed for Marquette, MI. Once the Spirit cleared the breakwall, American Courage moved to the Bulk Terminal to load a shuttle. Also leaving was Prentiss Brown/St.Marys Challenger to Charlevoix and Federal Oshima headed to Toledo. The Portuguese flagged UAL Fortitude arrived at the Port, Dock 22E to unload heavy machinery and containers. Finnborg is Dock 24E with steel coils and plates. The 120 foot long cruise ship Lady Caroline arrived in Cleveland. She will eventually replace the Nautica Queen, which has been in Cleveland since 1992.
Fairport Harbor, OH: Frontenac loaded salt and left for Hamilton, ON. CSL Tadoussac weighed anchor and went to Morton Salt to load.
Ashtabula, OH: Ocean Castle is still unloading at the Pinney dock.
Conneaut, OH: Walter J. McCarthy, Jr. arrived with ore for the P&C dock, unloaded then departed for Two Harbors.
Buffalo, NY: H. Lee White departed and is headed to Detroit for fuel at Miserskys. Polsteam’s Iryda arrived with sugar for Sucro.
Nanticoke, ON: Algocanada left with petroleum products for Sault Ste. Marie. Algoberta then went to Imperial Oil and joined fleetmate Algosea there. Algoterra is anchored.

Toledo, OH: Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader departed for Stoneport. Wilfred Sykes is at CSX and the saltie Bogdan is at Kuhlman’s. Algoma Intrepid is at the ARMS dock. Samuel de Champlain/Innovation brought in Cement for Holcim.
Marblehead, OH: Defiance/Ashtabula arrived to load stone at Holcim.
Sandusky, OH: Algoma Sault departed with coal for Trois Rivieres. Saginaw is the next boat to load at Norfolk Southern.
Cleveland, OH: Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement has cement for the Jefferson St. terminal. American Integrity brought in 60,000 tons of UTAC pellets for the Bulk Terminal. She left for Superior, WI after unloading. Sam Laud is anchored in Lake Erie. UAL Fortitude and Finnborg are at the Port docks and American Courage is off the shuttles and departed for Stoneport.

May 9
Monroe, MI: New York/Double Skin 509A is back with another load liquid asphalt to deliver.
Toledo, OH: Wilfred Sykes is getting hull work done and Bogdan is at Kuhlman’s. Algoma Intrepid departed for Cleveland. Arrivals were Evans Spirit to Midwest Terminals and Victory/Maumee to Torco. In port is Federal Oshima.
Marblehead, OH: Defiance/Ashtabula loaded stone and left for Fairport Harbor, OH. Fleetmate Manitoulin arrived to load at Holcim.
Sandusky, OH: Saginaw loaded coal and is headed to Algoma Steel at the Soo. CSL Niagara is the next boat under the loader at Norfolk Southern.
Cleveland, OH: Algoma Intrepid arrived from Toledo to load salt at Cargill. Petite Forte/St. Marys Cement departed for Bowmanville, ON and Sam Laud delivered to Cliffs then went to the Bulk Terminal to load a shuttle. UAL Fortitude and Finnborg are at the Port docks.
Fairport Harbor, OH: CSL Tadoussac departed with salt for Toronto and Defiance/Ashtabula arrived with stone for Osborne.
Conneaut, OH: Indiana Harbor arrived to unload ore at the P&C Dock.
Erie, PA: Sandsucker J.S. St. John is working in Lake Erie. McKeil Spirit is still in drydock at Donjon Marine.
Buffalo, NY: Polsteam’s Iryda is unloading sugar at Sucro Sourcing on the former Bethlehem Steel site.
Nanticoke, ON: Departures were Algoberta for Montreal and Algosea for Tracy-Kildair, both with petroleum products. Kitikmeot W and Algoterra both weighed anchor and went to Imperial Oil. A late afternoon arrival was the Algoma Mariner to Stelco. Leo A. MacArthur/John J. Carrick is at the Port Dover anchorage.
May 10
Monroe, MI: Paul R. Tregurtha brought in coal for DTE. She left for Duluth once empty. New York/Double Skin 509A is at the Port dock.
Toledo, OH: Evans Spirit left late Tuesday night for Sarnia. Still in port are Wilfred Sykes, Victory/Maumee at Torco, Bogdan at Kuhlman’s and Federal Oshima at Andersons. Algoma Innovator was a late evening arrival.
Marblehead, OH: Manitoulin loaded stone and left for Windsor. The next arrival to Holcim was Interlake’s Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder.
Sandusky, OH: CSL Niagara departed with coal for Nanticoke.
Cleveland, OH: Departures were Algoma Intrepid with salt for Montreal, Finnborg to Detroit and UAL Fortitude. Sam Laud is on the shuttles. The first cruise ship to Cleveland this season is the Ocean Navigator, arriving at 07:15 at dock 28W at the Port.

Toledo, OH: Arrivals were New York/Double Skin 509A to Midwest Terminals, Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader to the Torco dock and Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader to Ironville. Departures were Algoma Innovator to Goderich, Federal Oshima to Quebec, Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader to Calcite and after long layups, Edgar B. Speer to Two Harbors and Calumet to Calcite.
Marblehead, OH: Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder departed with stone for Cleveland.
Sandusky, OH: Manitoulin arrived to load coal at Norfolk Southern.
Cleveland, OH: Ocean Navigator departed for Detroit. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder brought in stone for Osborne, unloaded then went to the Bulk Terminal to load a shuttle. Sam Laud is delivering to Cliffs.
Erie, PA: McKeil Spirit has received fresh paint at Donjon Marine.
Buffalo, NY: Iryda is unloading sugar.
Nanticoke, ON: Kitikmeot W departed with petroleum products for Montreal. Leo A. MacArthur/John J. Carrick weighed anchor and is at Imperial Oil. CSL Niagara delivered coal to Stelco, then left for a return to Toledo. Algotitan arrived from Sarnia and anchored off of Port Dover.
May 12
Toledo, OH: New York/Double Skin 509A is at Midwest Terminals and Calumet made it as far as the CSX Dock #2, but still shows Calcite on AIS. Joyce L. VanEnkevort/Great Lakes Trader departed to Marquette, MI once empty. CSL Niagara is back at CSX. She loaded coal and left for another trip to Nanticoke. American Spirit arrived at the Torco Dock.
Sandusky, OH: Manitoulin loaded coal for Algoma Steel at the Soo.
Cleveland, OH: Edwin H. Gott arrived with 56,000 tons of UTAC pellets for the Bulk Terminal. She departed in the early afternoon and is on her way to Two Harbors. Dorothy Ann/Pathfinder is on the shuttles for Cliffs while Sam Laud is getting repairs of an unknown nature at Great Lakes Shipyard. Tugs Kathy Lynn and ST-911 Enduring Freedom are working on projects in the harbor. G.L. Ostrander/Integrity arrived to unload at Holcim.
Nanticoke, ON: Leo A. MacArthur/John J. Carrick departed with petroleum products for Tracy, PQ. Algotitan is loading at Imperial Oil.
Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The H. Lee White came in Friday the 5th with a load of Canadian Red Wheat for the Frontier elevator at 13:00 with no tugs. She would back out from the Frontier Elevator for the lake by herself at 08:00 on the 6th bound for Detroit.
The Iryda went into the anchorage the night of Friday, May 5, and arrived into Lackawanna for Sucros Sourcing with a load of raw cane sugar from Brazil at 10:00 the following morning with the help of the Vermont.
