Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
Unfortunately, a rare visit by Saginaw to BNSF was obscured entirely in the darkness after a quick overnight load and subsequent departure for the Soo at 04:45. She is due back again later this month and will hopefully yield better opportunities for picture-taking that time around. Regular customer CSL Tadoussac made her way inbound the Superior piers in a twofer 20 minutes later after sitting at anchor since around midnight, commencing a 30,000-ton load of Hibtac pellets destined for the furnaces at Stelco’s Lake Erie Works.

Around 07:40, near-simultaneous passages of a pair of ASC footers saw Burns Harbor arrive her Superior stomping grounds and American Integrity bid farewell to Duluth. The Burns headed to Enbridge to take a delay while waiting for her turn at BNSF, while the Integrity is on her way to St. Clair to deliver coal to the Belle River Power Plant. After lightening her load, the remaining 30,000 tons of the footer’s cargo will be making their way to Sam H. & Co. in Monroe. A third fleetmate, American Century, was inbound Duluth at 09:03 to take over at SMET for a similar load of coal, later departing at 22:16 to follow in the footsteps of sister Integrity. CSL Tadoussac had left Superior for Nanticoke about five hours earlier; Burns Harbor immediately shifted over to begin loading.

Four vessels were motionless Wednesday and remained in port overnight: Mesabi Miner at CN Dock 6, Fagelgracht at Clure Public Marine Terminal, Federal Katsura at Ash Grove, and Fivelborg across the way at Gavilon.

Polsteam’s Lubie arrived from Burns Harbor at 06:24 Wednesday with steel from IJmuiden, Netherlands. She backed into south slip one, outer harbor, and tied up at the Federal Marine Terminals dock. This is Lubie’s third visit to the city in 2022. In May and July she also brought steel from IJmuiden – Polsteam has a long-term contract with Tata Steel to move product from its IJmuiden facility to the Great Lakes. After delivering cement at the Kinnickinnic River terminal, Bradshaw McKee/St. Marys Conquest cleared for Charlevoix at 09:53.
