Buffalo, NY – Brian Wroblewski
The tug New York switched out of towing gear out near the Safe Water Beacon on the morning of November 19th at 4:30AM. She notched up and brought her barge DS509A into the North Entrance and turned down Buffalo Outer Harbor. Around 6AM they were all secure in the Outer Harbor Anchorage and sitting on the hooks off the Buffalo Port Terminal. On the morning of the 20th, the Vermont came down to help them come off the anchors and wind before escorting them to the Suite Kote pier in Tonawanda. As they were transiting North in the Outer Harbor, the Bristol Bay got underway for Erie, PA pushing her CGB12001 ahead from the Visiting Ship’s Dock in the Buffalo River. They winded in the Watson Basin, and headed out just in time to clear the way in front of the New York. As all that was going on, the Canadian Coast Guard buoy tender Caribou Isle arrived to change out the Summer markers on their side of the Niagara River. Later that afternoon the Vermont was back out to help the NACC Argonaut in stern first for LaFarge cement at 3:30PM. This was another Saturday aboard the USS Little Rock for me and from down inside the ship, it sounded like the busiest harbor in the world that day with constant prop noise in the water.
