Manitowoc, WI – Timothy Keefe
Saginaw was in port to deliver grain to Briess Malt from (I believe) Thunder Bay. This is the second grain delivery by laker to Briess since they resumed receiving via this mode of transport this year for the first time since 2008. The Algoma Intrepid made the first delivery in April of this year. Of note, the Saginaw was built in Manitowoc nearly 70 years ago, where she was launched in May of 1953.

St. Joseph – Benton Harbor, MI – Michael Moran
The G.L. Ostrander/Integrity has come and gone. The Aiden William from Calumet River Fleeting did a great job as the assist tug, and Jim from Great Lakes Search and Rescue did a fantastic job of surveying and marking the shoal and guiding the pair in and out.

While seeing these tugboats is awesome, each time a company has to hire a tugboat it costs a significant amount of money, which raises the costs of material that moves through the harbor. That being said, using a tug assist is FAR cheaper than trucking material in to supply the docks.

The good news is that the Corps of Engineers is still actively working on dredging. Whether the weather and the contractors will be able to make it work this year, or whether it will be early next season has yet to be seen, but I do want to thank our elected officials and the Corps for moving quickly on this.

See below for a video of the Ostrander/Integrity navigating the shoaling conditions, courtesy of Captain Rob.

Holland, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
Cuyahoga made a somewhat rare arrival to Holland on Wednesday. The last running maritimer arrived at 11:18 from Meldrum Bay, departing at 18:23 for Thessalon. This is her second arrival this year, the other coming exactly a month earlier on October 2nd. The Hog made 5 visits to Holland in 2021, so if contracts are similar we could see her make another trip or two before the end of the season.
