Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Bypassing waterfowl fleetmate Greenwing at anchor, Wigeon arrived directly off the lake at 15:34 to set up shop at MobilEx. She is likely loading potash off the conveyors. G3 Marquis would clear 26 minutes later with grain from Richardson Main for Port-Cartier, QC.
In port but not moving were Algoma Niagara, loading grain at G3 for Quebec City, QC, and Federal Yoshino, loading what is probably potash at Thunder Bay Terminals. Federal Mosel, Federal Baltic, and the aforementioned Greenwing were at anchor and joined by John D. Leitch midafternoon.
Marquette, MI – Noah H.
Kaye E. Barker kicked off the traffic on Sunday with an early 02:35 arrival, bringing stone from Meldrum Bay. Soon after, American Mariner arrived to the opposite side of the docks at 03:19 to join her. They would remain there until early afternoon when the Mariner cast off for Toledo at 13:23. The KEB would depart for Detroit in the evening at 19:16, taking longer due to having to unload stone and load ore. Lee A. Tregurtha and Joseph L. Block are both due soon.
Menominee, MI – Marinette, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
The Menominee River figures to get a rare saltie visitor at some point this week, as Federal Churchill has been anchored off port for several days with a Marinette destination.
Milwaukee, WI – Korey Garceau
After an unsuccessful attempt to enter the harbor on Saturday, the cruise ship Hamburg arrived in Milwaukee on Sunday morning with assistance from tugs Hawaii and Louisiana. Her guests were certainly familiarized to the wild fall weather on the lakes.
St. Joseph, MI – Benton Harbor, MI – Michael Moran
Sam Laud is underway from Drummond Island to Muskegon with stone. They will lighter part of their cargo in Muskegon before proceeding to St. Joe.
Holland, MI – Joshua Hebeisen
Stewart J. Cort — a special treat for locals who rarely see a footer so close — continued her several days’ stay anchored off the breakwater. Weather conditions may be the culprit, though some have suggested she may be experiencing engine issues. Stewie is loaded with taconite from Superior, WI, and is due next in Burns Harbor, IN, to unload. It looked like old #1 might finally be getting underway to the south around midday; however, she eventually turned around and headed back for Holland Sunday evening.
Saginaw River – Todd Shorkey
On Friday, October 13, Algoma Compass was outbound on the Saginaw River after a split unload at the Saginaw Asphalt/Buena Vista Dock and the GM Dock in Saginaw. She passed her old American Steamship Company fleetmate Sam Laud at the Wirt Stone Dock in Bay City. The Laud had been inbound the river earlier that day carrying a split cargo for the Wirt Stone Docks in Bay City and Saginaw.
Lake Erie – Bill Kloss
Still anchored off of Point Pelee are Mark W. Barker, Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger and Wilfred Sykes. Frontenac weighed anchor for Fairport Harbor.
Monroe, MI – Bill Kloss
American Century arrived late Sunday night with coal for DTE.
Toledo, OH – Bill Kloss
Leaving were Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader to Stoneport and Joseph L. Block to Marquette. Federal Seto is at Andersons. Arriving was Sharon MI/Huron Spirit with a quick 3-hour stop, Victory/Maumee to CSX, and Evans Spirit to Midwest Terminals.
Sandusky, OH – Bill Kloss
CSL Niagara departed for Nanticoke. Harvest Spirit is under the loader and Atlantic Huron is anchored in Lake Erie.
Lorain, OH – Bill Kloss
American Courage arrived at Carmeuse to unload limestone.
Cleveland, OH – Bill Kloss
Departing were Calumet to Detroit, Victory/Maumee to Toledo, and Happy River to Duluth. Algoma Intrepid is anchored in Lake Erie.
Grand River, OH – Fairport Harbor, OH – Bill Kloss
Manitowoc departed for Stoneport.
Conneaut, OH – Bill Kloss
Great Republic arrived to unload ore at the P&C Dock.
Buffalo, NY – Lackawanna, NY – Tonawanda, NY – Brian Wroblewski
Stormy conditions were back on Saturday, so around 02:00, the John J. Boland went to anchor off Buffalo out near the Safe Water Beacon for a while until things calmed down. Heavy rain, cool temps, and some wind were slowing traffic on the lake with the Defiance/Ashtabula putting into the Kingston Anchorage with 5 other vessels.
Sunday morning was looking better, so the Boland came in at 01:00 for the CSI wharf with her load of sand out of Brevort. She went up without tugs and secured for unloading about an hour later. The Defiance also got underway about that time and rounded Point Pelee downbound for Buffalo in the early morning.
Nanticoke, ON – Bill Kloss
Edwin H. Gott departed for Two Harbors once empty at Stelco. Algoberta and Birgit Knutsen are at Imperial Oil and Algotitan remains at anchor. CSL Niagara arrived with coal for Stelco.
