The morning of October 15 was looking better, so the John J. Boland came in at 01:00 for the CSI wharf with her load of sand out of Brevort. She went up without tugs and secured for unloading about an hour later. The Defiance/Ashtabula also got underway about that time and rounded Point Pelee downbound for Buffalo in the early morning rain. The Boland was all set around 10:00 and backed out for the lake on her own. They winded her in the Outer Harbor with the thrusters and departed for Calcite, MI on a misty Lake Erie.

The Defiance/Ashtabula arrived at 01:00 on October 16 for CSI and went up the Buffalo River to the City Ship Canal without assistance. They were unloading there until 12:00 when the VERMONT came down to tow them out stern first. After winding in the harbor the Defiance departed via the North Entrance bound for Toledo.

Nanticoke, ON – Bill Kloss
CSL Niagara is unloading at Stelco. Algoberta departed for Halifax, NS.
