Marquette, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
After a lull in traffic due to dangerous windy conditions, operations resumed on Thursday, with the arrival of the veteran Lee A. Tregurtha at 13:54 and departure later that evening at 22:18. She would be replaced immediately after by Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader, which never had to wait for as long as the LAT did outside of the St. Marys river, yet arrived at 22:31. Also of note, the CG Spar stopped by at 19:01.
Holland, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
Undaunted/Pere Marquette 41 arrived from Port Inland at 19:56.
Grand Haven, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
More unusual traffic at ports on Thursday: the tug/barge combo Victory/Maumee arrived at 13:04 to unload from Port Dolomite. The duo, with the barge being the former AAA laker Reserve, departed at 19:43. It may be several years before they are back again. An unexpected visitor was the Manitowoc, which was supposed to arrive St. Joseph, but gave up after waiting out bad conditions for several hours. Apparently orders changed to bring cargo (stone) up to Grand Haven instead. While it is of course important for the safety of ship and crew to avoid arriving in rough winds and waves, one cannot help but feel sorrow for the lonely donuts that failed to be delivered at St. Joseph. The ship’s destination was even set for ‘St. Joughnuts’ for crying out loud! The same thing happened to the G.L. Ostrander, which switched course for Muskegon.
Muskegon, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
At long last, the Candace Elise tug made a triumphant departure at 20:24 after spending nearly three weeks sitting idle. She will head to Sturgeon Bay next, which could mean a variety of things. We’ll have to stay tuned. Additionally, American Mariner arrived from Calcite just after midnight to unload at Verplank, an uncommon visitor at Muskegon. To add to a suddenly busy end of the week at the port, Kaye E. Barker will be back early Friday morning after spending the better part of the past week waiting out the weather at Muskegon. She will be carrying stone from Port Inland as is common for her. Arriving shortly after the Barker will be the G.L. Ostrander/Integrity with a cement load. After a slow week, things are picking up in a big way at Muskegon.
