Duluth, MN – Superior, WI – Joshua Hebeisen
00:19 Monday morning marked the departure of 1,004-foot James R. Barker, headed back out to work hauling ore on the lakes after spending some downtime at CN Dock 6 over the weekend. Her next destination, Toledo, will also mark a departure, one from her usual route of ore to Lake Michigan ports. This will be her first time making the Glass City run in over two months. For the second day in a row, a gorgeous sunrise with a hint of rich purple provided a dramatic backdrop for a vessel arrival in Duluth, this time the footer American Century. She tied up at SMET to load; across the bay, Philip R. Clarke had shifted from CN-Hallett Dock 5 to CN Dock 6 to load ore an hour before. Regular BNSF visitors Victory/Maumee made a much more irregular visit to the Minnesota side of the harbor at 11:55, if only to fuel at the port terminal before making their way down to the more familiar scenery of Allouez Bay midafternoon. An outbound American Century would slip just in front of saltie ABB Vanessa while the latter was pulling out of port terminal Berth 1 in the evening, setting up a primetime twofer under one bridge lift; official departure times were marked just five minutes apart at 18:45 and 18:50, respectively. The Century is delivering a split load of coal products to St. Clair and Monroe, while the Vanessa is Cleveland-bound with bean containers in the Duluth Port Authority’s latest dip into the growing containerized cargo trade. Victory/Maumee would be outbound at around 21:55 with ore for the Soo, leaving Onego Maas alone in Wisconsin waters as she takes on wheat at Gavilon.

Marquette, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
Interlake’s Lee A. Tregurtha departed at 07:11 with ore for Dearborn. Fleetmate Hon. James L. Oberstar will be making another visit in a day or two, again without making a stone drop-off at Duluth, which is becoming a trend.

Port Inland, MI – Andrew Meyer
Joseph L. Block made a departure later in the evening on September 10. Kaye E. Barker was Sunday’s only traffic, with an 0022 arrival and a 1325 departure. Great Republic is due on the 13th at 1030 am, coming from Gary.

Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Andrew Meyer
Chicago Area, IL/IN: Buffington saw the John G. Munson arrive around 1100 from Calcite on the 12th. Candace Elise was inbound Calumet breakwall at 2100 Monday.

The Wilfred Sykes cleared Indy at 0534 Monday for Cleveland on one of her very welcome visits to the lower lakes. American Integrity is due early Tuesday.
Gary, IN: After a rather lengthy stay in town, the Edwin H. Gott cleared Gary late on September 11. Arriving around the same time was the Rand ATB combo Defiance and Ashtabula. The pair would make a quick exit, departing Monday morning at 0834. The Great Republic also made a quick trip into port, with an 0510 arrival and an 1100 departure. A very quick stop, even for the Great Republic; she should be the last traffic for a day or so.

The Boland arrived at 1838 on Saturday after the departure of fleetmate American Mariner. The Boland would depart Sunday at 1341 and be replaced by her Canadian counterpart moments later. The Intrepid would depart early Monday morning. The H. Lee White arrived to take her place at 0420 Monday morning. The vessel would depart at the stroke of 1900 and be replaced by the American Mariner who was back for seconds. Mariner should depart sometime overnight Monday into Tuesday.
