Marquette, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
The American Spirit watched the Kaye E. Barker arrive the south side of the docks at 04:19, unload stone, load ore, and depart for Dearborn at midnight. Alas, being a thousand footer means longer loads than the classic (smaller) ships. In fact, the Spirit even watched the next generation Barker arrive in the time it took to load! The ‘Mark-ette’ day festivities will have to be postponed until the early morning though , as the Mark W. Barker had to wait in the fog for the elder Barker to depart before making her Marquette debut.

Port Inland, MI – Andrew Meyer
Regular visitor Great Republic arrived at 0936 on September 13. She’d depart at 2025 and be replaced by the John G. Munson moments later. The classic Bradley boat would make her exit at 1121 on September 14. Cuyahoga arrived around 1700 Friday evening.

Southern Lake Michigan Ports – Andrew Meyer
Chicago Area, IL/IN:

She arrived early on Friday morning, and departed at 1431. Edgar B. Speer is due, but not until September 19. She’s actually still in Two Harbors at the time of this writing.
Burns Harbor, IN: Dorothy Ann and Pathfinder arrived late on September 12, and would proceed to spend about 48 hours in port, finally departing on Wednesday evening at 2032. Grand Haven, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
Contrary to what Marine Traffic insists, the Herbert C. Jackson will not be making a historic ocean voyage to Fernandina, Florida. Herbie will stick to fresh water for now and be visiting Ferrysburg after arriving through Grand Haven in the early morning on Saturday. She will likely unload stone from Port Dolomite at Verplank. For now, Ferrysburg and Fernandina will continue to battle for the prestigious code of ‘USFER’.

Muskegon, MI – Oggdo Bogdo
Cruise ship Le Dumont d’Urville arrived at 07:02 to visit for the day. This is her second visit this year. The sleek French vessel departed at 19:11, headed to Milwaukee next. Further ahead, the Samuel de Champlain/Innovation will be arriving.

Drummond Island, MI – Andrew Meyer
The Drummond Islander III has been busy, seemingly giving the Drummond Islander IV a bit of a rest. The Joseph H. Thompson and Laura VanEnkevort made a pit stop for just under five hours to top off a load of stone she received in Calcite on the morning of September 14.

Calcite, MI – Andrew Meyer
Finishing up her second visit within 4 days, the American Mariner departed at 1023 on September 13. By the end of the day, Laura L. VanEnkevort would appear on the horizon with her WWII-era consort Joseph H. Thompson. The pair would spend a short time in port- only seven hours, before steaming off for Drummond Island, presumably for a split load. The stone is now in Cleveland, as is the ATB. The John J. Boland would arrive at 2108 on September 14, and departed at 1130 on Thursday. The second WWII era vessel of the week, the Lee A. Tregurtha, arrived at high noon on Thursday, and Great Republic would arrive at 2125 for another regular visit. An 0238 departure Friday by the Lee would mark the beginning of a busy day in Calcite. Great Republic departed at 1414, and was replaced by the Menominee and Olive L. Moore shortly thereafter. John G. Munson arrived at 2053. No traffic is expected for the next day or two.
