Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney

Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Wrapping up her first trip north in over a month, Baie St. Paul departed at 07:06 with product from Thunder Bay Terminals. As usual, the vessel’s destination of Sydney, NS, was entered in AIS as Sydney, Australia. The St. Paul seems especially keen on swapping the Great Lakes for the Great Barrier Reef this summer. Federal Satsuki arrived from anchor to take the laker’s place at 10:42, and fellow saltie Solina would follow her in at 13:02 for Viterra A.

Fleetmates Federal Hunter and Federal Welland spent the day at Richardson Main and Keefer Terminal, respectively. A packed anchorage on Saturday night included Federal Dart, Federal Fraser, Federal Mayumi, Verila, Brant, and the unique green Onego Bayou.

St. Marys River – Joshua Hebeisen
With an elegant design and fancy name to match, French cruise ship Le Dumont-d’Urville is back for another round of fall tours of the Great Lakes. The d’Urville entered the Seaway and made her way into the lakes in late August, heading up Lake Huron for stops in Parry Sound, ON, and Little Current, ON, before gracing Sault Ste. Marie, MI, with her presence early Saturday morning.

The vessel made port on the American side at 06:57 and tied up at the stern of the Valley Camp, letting her passengers ashore before departing at 19:44 for Mackinac Island, MI. The d’Urville did not pass through the locks on this visit, and her future itinerary indicates that she will not be visiting Lake Superior this season. Several cruises between Toronto, ON, and Milwaukee, WI, are on tap through October.

Port Inland, MI (Gulliver, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
Sam Laud arrived from Green Bay, WI, to load stone at 10:17, later heading outbound at 20:22 for an unlisted destination. She was headed down Lake Huron as of Saturday night. Joseph L. Block hauled up the anchor chain and proceeded inbound at 21:18.

St. Joseph, MI – Benton Harbor, MI – Michael Moran
The mighty Manitowoc, our much-beloved flagship, made a triumphant return to Dock 63 at 19:33. The Manitowoc has a load of stone from Stoneport’s Presque Isle Quarry to support construction and infrastructure projects around the region. The crew received Red Coach Donuts and also Monster Energy drinks that the crew had requested.

Calcite, MI (Rogers City, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
Philip R. Clarke departed at 07:18 for Duluth, MN, giving way to Algoma Innovator. The Canadian laker loaded stone throughout the day before clearing at 19:53 downbound on Lake Huron. No AIS destination is listed, but the Detroit River seems like a good bet.

Stoneport, MN (Presque Isle, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
American Mariner departed at 12:45 for Marysville, MI.

Saginaw River – Joshua Hebeisen
Herbert C. Jackson unloaded stone from Stoneport, MI, at multiple locations along the river.
