Two Harbors, MN – Gary Putney
Algoma Guardian departed Two Harbors at 06:46 for Hamilton. American Spirit arrived Two Harbors at 07:46. Edwin H. Gott is heading for the Two Harbors shiploader. Oakglen is heading for Two Harbors — one of her only trips there this season.
Silver Bay, MN – Gary Putney
Dirk S. VanEnkevort/Michigan Trader is heading for Silver Bay.
Thunder Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Tuesday in T-Bay began with a little confusion at the confluence. Arriving port from the anchorage at 07:37, saltwater vessel Brant would head up the Mission River, presumably for the MobilEx terminal. Upon reaching the turning basin at the mouth of the Kaministiquia River, however, the saltie would turn around and promptly head back out the way she came, going back on the hook at around 09:15. Another ocean visitor, Onego Bayou, would pick up anchor two hours later and arrive to stay without so much as looking back. She joins Federal Welland handling cargo at Keefer Terminal. Tim S. Dool would depart Richardson Main at 15:31 for Port-Cartier, QC, leaving behind Federal Dart loading across the wharf at Richardson Current River. Solina departed Viterra A at 20:46 for a hop across the pond to Ravenna, Italy, and G3 Marquis wrapped up the day with a 22:35 arrival for P&H.
A full anchorage throughout the day included Gardno, Verila, Federal Fraser, Federal Mayumi, Vectis Pride, and, of course, Brant. Federal Franklin was approaching as of late Tuesday night.
Marquette, MI – Noah H.
It was a day of regulars at the ore docks on Tuesday. To start, Hon. James L. Oberstar arrived at 01:02 to first unload limestone from Meldrum Bay. Once the holds were good and empty, it was time to fill them back up with ore pellets. In the meantime, Victory/Maumee arrived at 12:58 to load at the northernmost dock. They would stay the rest of the day, while the Oberstar finished up in the late evening to depart for Toledo at 23:04, bookending a full day of activity.
Port Dolomite, MI (Cedarville, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
Kaye E. Barker departed at 05:38 with stone for Grand Haven, MI. Anchored among the nearby islands, Saginaw headed inbound for her turn to load 15 minutes later. The Canadian classic cleared for Windsor, ON, at 19:12.
Port Inland, MI (Gulliver, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
Manitoulin departed at 08:54 for Spragge, ON.
Grand Haven, MI – Ferrysburg, MI – Noah H.
Just yesterday it was reported that both the Caroline McKee and Bradshaw McKee have made Grand Haven visits this year for their common company, and on Tuesday another tug has joined the fray in the Prentiss Brown/St. Marys Challenger. They arrived at 01:44 and saddled up next to their fleet mate combo Caroline McKee/Commander. It’s somewhat unclear what kind of unloads took place (likely partial unloads), but the latter duo departed at 05:26 for Charlevoix, while the former finished up just a few hours later and departed for Milwaukee at 07:35. The fun didn’t stop there, however, as the river class laker Calumet arrived at 08:51 from Indiana Harbor to unload aggregate at Meekhof’s D&M. As per usual, their visit didn’t last too long, and she was outbound and on her way to Port Inland by 15:09. The next traffic will be the Kaye E. Barker, arriving in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Muskegon, MI – Noah H.
It was quite the day for vessels with words starting with a lowercase ‘d’ in their names. Or, if you’re in a rush, French names. To begin, Le Dumont-d’Urville arrived at 06:55 for their first Muskegon visit of the season after making a handful of said visits a year ago. Last year’s first visit came on September 4th, so it seems likely that the Dumont-d’Urville will be a somewhat frequent sight over the next month or two. Exactly 10 hours later, at 16:55, the cruise vessel loaded back up and set off for Mackinac Island. While the passengers were still on the shore, however, Samuel de Champlain/Innovation departed the Holcim dock at 11:27 following a roughly 31-hour visit. They are headed next to Calumet Harbor on the southern part of Lake Michigan.
Calcite, MI (Rogers City, MI) – Joshua Hebeisen
John J. Boland arrived at 11:26 to load along the southern dock facing. Fleetmate American Mariner, loading to the north, would depart at 19:38 for Bay City, MI.
Meldrum Bay, ON – Joshua Hebeisen
Algoma Intrepid arrived at 10:45 and departed around midnight headed downbound on Lake Huron. Her AIS destination had not been updated.
Monroe, MI – Bill Kloss
Harvest Spirit finally got empty and departed for Goderich, ON.
Toledo, OH – Bill Kloss
Mark W. Barker stopped at Midwest Terminals after unloading at Torco, unloaded then departed for Cleveland. Algoma Conveyor departed for Goderich.
Marblehead, OH – Bill Kloss
Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader loaded stone at Holcim and left for Lorain.
Lorain, OH – Bill Kloss
A rare day in Lorain with 2 boats visiting as Defiance/Ashtabula arrived with limestone for Carmeuse and Clyde S. VanEnkevort/Erie Trader delivered stone to Holcim. The Defiance/Ashtabula combo unloaded a partial cargo at Carmeuse and then left for Fairport Harbor.
Cleveland, OH – Bill Kloss
New York/Double Skin 509A left for Detroit once empty. Sam Laud moved to the Bulk Terminal to load a shuttle after unloading at the Cliffs stone dock. Wilfred Sykes weighed anchor and, assisted by G tugs, headed up the Cuyahoga River to unload at the Cliffs stone dock.
Grand River, OH – Fairport Harbor, OH – Bill Kloss
Frontenac arrived for salt at the Morton plant.
Erie, PA – Bill Kloss
American Courage delivered stone to Carmeuse.
Nanticoke, ON – Bill Kloss
Algoterra is loading at Imperial Oil.
Port Colborne, ON – Barry Andersen
Another run for me up to Port Colborne was unexpected today when VHF said the tug Vac was moving over to assist Tecumseh over to the Marine Recycling Corp. (MRC) slip. Tugs John D., Vac, and MRC workboat Charlie E. moved Tecumseh from Wharf 17 south a short distance to line up with the slipway where she will be hauled out of the water as scrapping progresses.
